In the past, chicken farms did not have any animal medicine that could be legally used on poultry, making hens suffer from chicken lice, and some egg farmers had to risk using drugs of unknown origin, which eventually led to the outbreak of a storm of eggs contaminated by "pesticide fenpril" in Taiwan in 2017. However, due to the problem of chicken lice, there is still no solution, up to this year (2019), there are still eggs were found to be excessive fenpril residue, affecting the food safety of Chinese people.

In order to solve the problem of "underground drug use", the Prevention and Inspection Bureau has targeted the insecticide "Fluralaner" (Ferrana), whose mechanism is similar to that of fenpril. The European Union has been open to poultry use in 2014 and can "double-effect" kill common chicken lice and mites in pastures. Recently, it has passed a consultation meeting of the Ministry of Health and Welfare (referred to as "Ministry of Health and Welfare") and entered the final review stage, which is expected to be announced in early June. It is expected to put an end to the problem of illegal drug use in chicken farming from the source.

5True 30 update: the Ministry of Health and Welfare officially issued a notice on May 30th that it will amend the domestic "Animal Drug residue Standard". The Fluralaner residue allowance is as follows: chicken muscle 0.06ppm, liver and fat (including skin) 0.6ppm, kidney 0.4ppm, egg 1ppm.

Chickens are not legally recommended to use drugs, and illegal use of drugs leads to food safety crisis.

Nearly 40 million laying hens are raised in Taiwan, producing 20 million eggs a day and 7.5 billion eggs a year, with the largest number in Changhua, Pingtung, Tainan and Chiayi. Domestic laying hens are mainly raised in cages, coupled with three generations of mixed breeding of old, middle-aged and young chickens, the henhouse is not easy to disinfect. At present, the government has not announced the legal use of any chicken lice, and there are often chicken farmers who illegally use drugs to get rid of insects.

The prolonged burning of Taiwan's "fenpany eggs" in 2017 was caused by the improper use of the pesticide "fenpril" by egg farmers to remove parasites from the environment and chickens, which not only affected 1.24 million laying hens and more than 700,000 ─ eggs, but also seriously damaged consumers' confidence in domestic egg products. More than a year later, an outbreak of poisonous eggs broke out at another egg farm in Changhua, and eggs were detected to exceed the standard.

In fact, domestic chicken farmers have a hard time to say, because Taiwan's climate is hot and humid, and pastures have been infested by chicken lice and mites for a long time, and in the past, there was no legal use of drugs to be used in chicken sheds, so egg farmers had no choice but to watch chicken lice crawl all over the chicken cage. Sigh: "Save the chicken, do not save, the whole infection."

Egg farmers: don't dare to use it until you make sure there are no side effects.

Zhuo Ki-wen, owner of Taitung Yongtai Farm, which operates closed poultry houses and is equipped with water curtains and other environmental control facilities, said that in order to effectively control the epidemic and the health of chickens, the farm adopts unified management, cleaning and disinfecting the empty house regularly. Only when it is finished will we welcome the next batch of hens. "nevertheless, there is still the problem of chicken lice. (chicken lice) like to hide in chicken feathers, which will affect the eating of chickens." In serious cases, it may even reduce the laying rate by 10%. "

On the other hand, the eggs produced on the farm are checked by the production resume, and the drinking water and feed of the hens have to be tested irregularly. "We did not recommend medicine before, and we dare not use it, so we can only see that the bugs are crawling. After all, consumers are very demanding for food safety." With regard to the fact that alternative drugs are about to pass the review, he said frankly that it was "a good thing", but he would not "use it urgently", saying that he would refer to the relevant reports and make sure that there were no side effects before he dared to try.

Another egg farmer surnamed Zeng in a traditional chicken house (open poultry house) also has reservations about "new medicine." He points out that although the problems of chicken lice and chicken mites are serious, "every time I pick up eggs, I see them running around, especially when picking up dead chickens, and my whole hand is covered with chicken moss!" However, it does not seriously damage the laying rate of hens (1-2% at most). It is just that the older generation of chicken farmers do not like chicken farms to be disturbed by pests, so they "kill insects and spray everywhere". In addition, in the past, officials were passive and did not recommend drugs. Egg farmers have failed to establish a correct concept of drug management in chicken farms for a long time.

Now the Bureau of Prevention and Inspection is planning to revise the Fluralaner to be used to disinfect chickens. In this regard, he also warns that "there are residues in any drug, but there is a question of whether it exceeds the standard." if the drug is used for a long time and becomes resistant, egg farmers have to increase the dose. "I don't know if the accumulated total residue will exceed the standard." He said bluntly that he would not consider the use of drugs at present and that he would have to wait and see the market reaction before making a decision.

Note: the data show that this test refers to the toxicological tests of the European Union and Japan, and according to the Chinese eating habits, food intake and international standard food basket data, the "Fluralaner provisional allowance standard" is put forward, and the daily Fluralaner intake of chicken products and egg products is 53.654 μ g (national food intake database) and 352.549 μ g (international standard food basket). This value is lower than the upper limit of daily safe intake recommended by 60kg adults: 600 μ g / person (10H / kg bw x 60kg), indicating that the allowable standard is acceptable.

(2017) Fenpany egg pesticide residue standard, the formulation process is full of wind and rain, and the risk communication is even worse?
