The flowers of camellias are huge and gorgeous, and many people also plant camellias as potted plants for viewing. However, what if potted camellias only grow buds but do not blossom, or even drop buds? Admittedly, if potted camellias only conceive buds but do not blossom, it will inevitably affect their ornamental value, it can be said that all ornamental value is lost. Therefore, we need to find out the reason, and then prescribe the right medicine in order to bloom smoothly.

If you want to understand the reason why the camellia buds do not bloom, we must first understand its growth habits. Camellias like to be warm and moist, so improper temperature, light and humidity, and even diseases and insect pests, may cause poor growth, especially on flowering. Therefore, in view of the phenomenon that potted camellias only grow buds but do not blossom, we need to focus on the management and implementation of countermeasures from the above aspects.

First, keep warm

The optimum temperature of camellia during budding period usually needs to be kept at 10-15 ℃, but the temperature management before budding is very important, which will directly affect flowering. After all, camellias usually bloom from January to April, and whether the winter of the previous year is well managed or not largely determines the flowering of the following spring.

When the cold air strikes in winter, the temperature often drops sharply. If the potted camellias are placed in places such as outdoor balconies, if the outdoor temperature is lower than 5 ℃, there will often be frostbite buds, resulting in the later stage can not blossom normally. Therefore, in the winter day, it is usually appropriate to put the camellias potted plants on the sunny and windless balcony, and move them indoors in time in the evening; if the indoor temperature is still relatively low, when the temperature is as low as 5 ℃, it is recommended to use plastic bags to cover the potted plants to keep warm and wet to avoid freezing injury.

Second, maintain humidity

As camellias prefer a moist growing environment, it is still necessary to spray water properly in winter when the air is relatively dry. By taking the measures of spraying water or spraying in time, the air humidity can meet the demand of camellia growth, so as to ensure that the plant can conceive buds smoothly and create good conditions for flowering.

In addition to maintaining proper air humidity, we also need proper watering to maintain the humidity of the basin soil. In general, the original can keep 3-5 strips watered once on a sunny day, so as to keep the basin soil moist, but do not make the basin soil too dry and wet. If you use a large pot to grow large camellias, you can usually keep watering them once a week. Only when the humidity of the air and the soil is guaranteed, the camellias will normally conceive buds without losing buds, and at the same time promote flowering.

III. Disease and pest control

Potted camellias are vulnerable to aphids, rust wall lice and other diseases and insect pests during the bud period. Once found, special drugs should be used to spray them immediately. If you are attacked by aphids, you can use omethoate diluent to spray; if you are infected with rust wall lice, you can use washing powder and diesel oil diluted with water and then spray. At the same time, attention should also be paid to improving the ventilation and light transmission of the environment so as to avoid the emergence of an environment that is easy to cause the invasion of diseases and insect pests.

Based on the conservation of the above three points, as long as we can manage well in advance, we can often put an end to the phenomenon that potted camellias only show buds but do not blossom, and usually begin to bloom at the end of the year as scheduled. At the same time, they can also bring a touch of green to the environment and a hint of spring. It can be seen that scientific conservation and management methods are very important for the growth and flowering of potted camellias.
