Why does potted Lycoris not blossom in the north?
Garlic flower, also known as the other shore flower, because of its bright red flowers, people can not help thinking of blood, although the flower shape is beautiful, but in the folk people think that its flowers have ominous beauty, symbolizing disaster and death. But after all, garlic is a relatively strange flower plant, generally do not see leaves when flowering, and do not see flowering when there are leaves, but usually flowers first and then leaves.
Perhaps it is precisely because the flowers and leaves of Lycoris radiata do not appear at the same time the strange phenomenon has created a good charm, so many friends like to plant it as a potted plant. And flowers and leaves do not appear at the same time, but also have the meaning of sad love that can never meet, so people often call it "other shore flowers". However, after all, the other shore flower has a good ornamental value, so it is often used not only in potted plants, but also in horticulture.
But if the Lycoris radiata does not blossom, it must be a different scene, and it is also what we would most like to see. Especially in the northern region, why does potted Lycoris not blossom in the north? This also needs to be investigated from the point of view of its growth habits and our daily maintenance and management methods.
Garlic flowers in the wild generally grow in relatively gloomy and humid places, and their cold tolerance is extremely strong, but they are also resistant to exposure and can withstand an average daily temperature of 24 ℃; in addition to dampness, shade and cold tolerance, they are also more drought-tolerant, preferring fertile, loose, acidic and humus-rich red soil, and will enter a dormant state at high temperatures in summer.
The flowers and leaves of the garlic flower will not appear at the same time, but the flower pattern is very graceful and beautiful, and at the same time, it often brings a sense of mystery because of its strange way of showing. According to the growth habits of Lycoris radiata in the above aspects, as long as we can create suitable conditions for it, we can often ensure that it can maintain normal growth and bloom as scheduled. However, if the conditions can not be met, it may lead to the phenomenon of non-flowering. The failure of Lycoris radiata to bloom is mainly due to the following factors:
1. Soil discomfort
Garlic flowers prefer acidic soil, if the soil is alkaline, especially when it is about to enter the flowering stage after leaf bud differentiation, if the soil is still alkaline, then Lycoris radiata basically will not blossom. But if it is planted in acidic soil, it will promote flower bud differentiation if successful, and then bloom as scheduled.
Second, too much watering
Most plants are afraid of waterlogging, even many flowers and plants with strong water tolerance are no exception, mainly due to excessive watering or Rain Water causing stagnant water in the basin, causing retting and rotting roots, resulting in plant damage. Garlic flower is the same, although it likes to be moist, it is also afraid of soaking its roots in water for a long time, so this is also an important factor that causes it not to bloom. Therefore, if you plant Lycoris radiata in pots, be sure to use flowerpots with drains at the bottom, and water them moderately at ordinary times.
Third, lack of nutrients
Garlic flowers prefer fertile, loose and humus-rich soil environment, if the soil is relatively barren, lack of nutrients, it is also easy to cause its non-flowering phenomenon. As long as we can adjust the proportion of organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer in time, adjust the proportion of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium reasonably, and improve the fertility of the soil, it is expected to blossom smoothly.
The above three aspects are often the main reasons for the non-flowering of Lycoris radiata, of course, it is not ruled out that there may be some other unusual reasons to be discovered. But as long as we can build a suitable growth environment according to its habitual characteristics, we believe that potted Lycoris radiata can not only maintain good growth, but also bloom as scheduled. This requires us to explore and sum up more in practice, especially in the northern region, we often need to pay more efforts.
