Desert rose gets its name because it grows close to the desert and blossoms as brightly as a rose. In fact, it has nothing to do with roses, let alone a rose mentioned in its name. Its growth habits determine that this plant is destined to like a bright, high-temperature and dry growth environment.

However, winter has entered nowadays, although there is no severe cold and low temperature in the south of our country as in the north. But after all, it is a kind of flowers and plants that like warmth and heat, and it is not resistant to cold, so the winter maintenance method is very critical, which is the guarantee to ensure whether the plant can survive the winter safely and smoothly. Today, the editor will share with you the winter conservation methods of desert roses.

First, the temperature is guaranteed

Because desert roses are not resistant to cold, temperature protection is very important. If the temperature is as low as 10 °C, the plant is prone to frostbite, so move the plant into a warm, sunny and well-ventilated place for maintenance before cooling down significantly.

Second, the soil quality should be loose.

Although desert roses are also more resistant to barren, original but as a pot cultivation, it is also necessary to ensure that the basin soil is loose and breathable, strong water permeability and fast water dissipation. The use of such pot soil to cultivate desert roses will not encounter the phenomenon of stagnant water in the basin when a large amount of water is watered. After all, desert roses are resistant to dry and wet, and stagnant water is prone to rotting roots.

Third, watering should be appropriate

Although we choose loose soil with good permeability to raise desert roses, watering should be moderate and should not be excessive, especially in winter, watering should be strictly controlled in order to keep the basin soil slightly dry. And the plant will stop growing when the ambient temperature is lower than 15 °C, and the water can be cut off at this time. Wait until the basin soil is dry for 2-3 days before watering.

Fourth, topdressing should be made in advance.

Desert roses stop growing because of their poor cold tolerance and easy to go dormant when the winter temperature is low. In order to improve the cold tolerance of the plant and make it strong enough to survive the winter, it is generally necessary to apply enough fertilizer to it before the beginning of winter. It is usually appropriate to top-apply slow-release fertilizer based on phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, so that the fertilizer effect is longer and less prone to fertilizer damage at the same time.

When the temperature warms up and the plant returns to normal growth, we will provide quick-acting fertilizer and slow-release fertilizer mainly by topdressing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. This can not only make the plant have sufficient nutrients to maintain good growth, but also promote its flowering.
