Can water lilies blossom without soil?
Water lily is a kind of flowering aquatic plant, because of its wide variety, rich colors, large and colorful flowers and quite ornamental, so many potted friends like to pot at home for appreciation, but also bring a lot of interest to our life. There is no doubt that if water lilies are raised in pots, water is very important, but can water lilies blossom without soil?
In fact, for water lilies, the soil mainly plays the role of fixing the roots and providing nutrients for the roots. If we can solve these two problems, then it will be enough to ensure that the water lilies can blossom as scheduled without soil. The root block of fixed water lilies is often easier to achieve, generally put some small pebbles or perlite on the bottom of the basin.
But after all, the growth of water lilies is inseparable from nutrients, and it also likes to be fat. Since there is no soil, it is naturally impossible to provide nutrients to plants through the soil, so we can only provide nutrients for water lilies from the water. But adding nutrients to the water supply can also be achieved, in addition to the use of fertilizer solution, we can also use nutrient solution.
However, whether it is the use of liquid fertilizer or nutrient solution, the original growth season should mainly supplement the three elements of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Therefore, as long as we can absorb the three nutrients of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in water, we can generally meet their growth needs. However, in addition to direct fertilization, we can also raise some fish in the water, which can not only purify the water like the roots of water lilies, but also replenish a lot of nutrients for water lilies by dissolving their feed and excreta in the water.
Of course, when we use fertilizer or nutrient solution for hydroponic water lilies, we must control the concentration and make sure that the fertilizer is thin enough so that it will not harm the roots of the plant. If it is completely hydroponic, the root of the water lily is in direct contact with the water. Once the nutrients are dissolved in the water, then the root of the water lily is in direct contact with the fertilizer, which is easy to cause fertilizer damage. Therefore, if soilless water culture is adopted, the concentration of water lilies must be strictly controlled when fertilizing.
It should be noted that if we let water lilies symbiosis with fish when we cultivate water lilies, the fish must be fished out and raised elsewhere when fertilizing. We usually have to wait until at least three weeks before we put the fish back into the basin, otherwise fertilizing in the water will have a certain impact on the survival of the fish and, in serious cases, may lead to the death of the fish.
