When the cuckoo is in full bloom, it is clustered like brocade and colorful. Spring cuckoo, summer cuckoo and western cuckoo have different florescence and usually blossom one after another from April to July. They are generally recognized as the best ornamental flowers and trees. If measures are taken to control the appropriate temperature, humidity and light to ensure the supply of fertilizer, the cuckoo can blossom in advance to the Spring Festival. The poet Bai Xiangshan praised the poem "Mountain Pomegranate Flower": "the splendor is restored to splendor, and there is no comparison among the flowers. Yan demon should be a small courtyard, short called low corridor. It was originally a mountain object, but now it is built under the fragrance. Thousands of clumps face each other, thousands of flowers hold each other low. Illuminate even Zhu sill, exquisite reflect pink wall. " The ornamental value of rhododendron in the garden is described.

As a bonsai cultivation, rhododendron has a long history in China, especially in recent years, with the development of economy and the progress of science and technology, the cultivation technology of rhododendron bonsai is quite mature, and there are high-quality academic articles in newspapers and periodicals from time to time. I have been engaged in rhododendron cultivation and bonsai production for more than 10 years. I have collected more than 200 pots of rhododendrons of different colors and petals. On the basis of previous and contemporary experts' research, I have some experience in the field picking, domestication, planting, grafting, potting, modeling and management of rhododendron. Although superficial, I would also like to contribute to you as a stone from other mountains.

In the creation of rhododendron bonsai, it is easy to produce two misunderstandings: first, the bonsai is a flowering plant, as long as it is large, the appearance meets the general requirements of the bonsai, keep the flowers gorgeous and grow vigorously, you can climb the "elegant hall". Second, the cuckoo grows slowly, the branches are difficult to reach thickness, and the technique of "storing branches and cutting dry" of miscellaneous wood potted brooms can not be used for reference. when watching, there is often "brilliance" in full bloom, and after trimming "strip". It shows that the proportion of piles and branches is seriously out of balance. In my opinion, some discussions and attempts should be made in this respect. Since azaleas are bonsai, if we want to enjoy the flowers, we should follow the basic laws and inherent requirements of bonsai creation and enhance the overall ornamental value.

First of all, the billet pile should be selected. No matter the rhododendron purchased in the market or excavated in the field, there is no lack of grey piles with thick dry, odd pile type and solid foundation. After obtaining these better rhododendron resources, we should consider them repeatedly, make up the composition and position the stumps as we do other bonsai. While digging the brightest "shining point" of the grey pile, it is necessary to retain as many transition branches as possible. Do a good job in these preliminary basic work to make good preparations for determining the positioning of branch accumulation in the later stage. For the thicker transitional branches retained, although the branch direction is not ideal, it can be treated by "operation".

Second, it is necessary to overcome the idea of eagerness for success. A beautiful cuckoo bonsai cannot be completed in a year or even 3-5 years. It takes a long time and hard work. This is the truth of the so-called "success in one day, merit in ten years". According to my practice, the sprouting of new buds as a first-class transitional branch should achieve a relatively ideal roughness, ranging from 6 to 7 years to 8 to 9 years, which requires that we must be able to endure loneliness, keep time, and overcome the idea of being impatient and eager for success.

Third, pay attention to management and accelerate branch growth. As the saying goes, "if you want a horse to grow well, you must have enough to eat." The growth of plant cattle is inseparable from the basic living conditions and adequate "nutrition", and the management of soil, fertilizer and water is an important factor to provide basic conditions for cuckoo growth. My colleagues have already elaborated on this aspect, and their experience has inspired me a lot. In order to speed up the speed of branch storage and stocking, I not only follow the law of soil, fertilizer and water needed for cuckoo growth, but also pay attention to three points: first, apply thin fertilizer diligently. The frequent application of thin fertilizer does not refer to the regular interval of fertilization, but the routine watering operation of the diluted fertilizer and water. I put several water tanks around the bonsai, which store retted lai cakes, bones and water all the year round, and use artificial watering during the cuckoo growing period, and then use clear water with foliar water. The second is to release branches to blossom as little as possible. Every year from late September to early October, the rhododendron bud has become a prototype, and all the buds should be removed to reduce the internal consumption of the rhododendron, and the Beginning of Spring will enter the growing period directly next year (some will cut off the branches slightly, and the new buds will enter the growing period later). The third is to erase the excess buds. Rhododendron has a strong germinating power and often sprouts many new buds soon after pruning. According to the needs of modeling, excess new buds should be erased and branches should be kept for growth.
