1. Rootstock seedling selection:

The seeds purchased at the end of autumn should be washed and sterilized and stored in earthen pots or wooden pots with sand storage. 2. Grafting method:

The suitable period for grafting is from mid-March to early April, when the rootstock has begun to sprout, but the scion has not yet germinated. The scion should cut off the leaves and leave only a petiole, and cover the scion with wet towels or straw to prevent drying. When grafting, the rootstock is cut 4-5 cm high from the root neck, wipe off the soil of the root, cut into an oblique angle on one side of the cut, and then cut down vertically with a little xylem, 2-3 cm long.

Scion selection: according to the thickness of the rootstock, choose the same thickness, 4-8 cm long, strong axillary buds full scion, it is best to choose the first section as the scion, such as the second section as the scion, to retain 2-3 buds. After the scion is selected, cut the lower part of the scion to a 45-degree angle with a sharp unnotched grafting knife. Then, the second knife with less xylem, cut straight from top to bottom, length 2-2.5 cm, scion and rootstock cutting edge can be hairy, smooth.

3. Management after grafting:

After grafting, the wound healed in about 20-25 days, and then the bud axil germinated and grew. After sprouting, when growing to 2-3 leaves, pay attention to timely weeding, remove the mother seedlings, and be careful not to collide with the scion. In the future, we will often weed, fertilize and water. Bordeaux liquid is often sprayed to prevent and control diseases. Bordeaux liquid is prepared with copper sulfate, quicklime and water. The ratio of copper sulfate to quicklime is equal to 1: 1: 100 to 200.

Magnolia seeds are easy to germinate in urban areas, and the seedlings grow slowly, so Magnolia magnolia is generally propagated by grafting, and Magnolia magnolia and Magnolia magnolia can be used as rootstocks. Magnolia mandshurica is light-loving in growth and slightly shady when it is young. Like warm and humid climate, have a certain ability to resist cold. Suitable for dry, fertile, moist and good drainage slightly acidic or neutral soil, planting in alkaline soil is easy to yellowing, avoid stagnant water, poor drainage. It has strong resistance to smoke and sulfur dioxide gas, and has less diseases and insect pests. The root system is deep and broad, and the wind resistance is strong.
