Sweet-scented osmanthus is a famous fragrant flower, with green leaves all the year round, bright and clean trees, golden branches in full bloom, green leaves and yellow flowers, full of fragrance, lasting and exhilarating. Most of them are open in autumn, so they have a reputation of monopolizing the three autumn months and pressing the masses. The four seasons of cinnamon bloom, and the viewing period is longer. There is another kind of Cold Dew cinnamon, which blossoms in late autumn and blooms later. Wang Wei, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, has poems of cold dew and silent dampness.

Potted plants to make sweet-scented osmanthus blossom, fragrant, need to grasp the selection of pot soil, timely watering, skillful topdressing, proper pruning and other important links.

[grafting method]

Bonsai sweet-scented osmanthus will use grafting, branch grafting is the general purpose of grafting. Branch grafting has the methods of cutting, splitting and leaning. Lobular privet, wax, privet and other tree species are commonly used as rootstocks. The cutting method is widely used. When grafting, cut the rootstock at 5 cm from the ground, choose the smooth side of the bark, slightly cut down the xylem vertically, cut into a cut 2-3 cm deep, and take one-year-old mature branches, 6-8 cm long, with 2-3 nodes.

The lower end of the scion is cut into an oblique cutting surface of 2 cm, and then obliquely cut into a short cutting surface of about 1 cm on the reverse side, then the long cutting surface of the scion is close to the cutting surface of the rootstock and inserted into a notch, so that the cambium of the two cutting surfaces are closely jointed, and then the cortex of the cut of the rootstock is wrapped on the outside of the scion, tied and fixed with plastic film tape to close the cut of the rootstock and the top of the scion to prevent water evaporation, and it is easy to survive.

The support grafting is to cut off the xylem of the female parent branch of the scion and the female parent branch of the rootstock, which is 5 cm in length and 10 cm in length and 1B3~1B2 in dry diameter, then combine them with each other, bind them with plastic film tape, and then separate them after survival. Depending on the survival is very sure, garden nursery cultivation of potted cassia mostly use this method.

[process of putting on the basin]

Selection of pots: sweet-scented osmanthus green leaves and yellow flowers, evergreen all the year round, it is appropriate to choose a deeper round basin or square basin, the diameter of the basin mouth is roughly the same as the diameter of sweet-scented osmanthus branches and leaves, it is beneficial to root development and growth. The texture of the basin is better with purple sand pottery basin or glazed pottery basin. The color is better with purple or ochre, which can be in sharp contrast with the color of flowers and leaves to increase its ornamental effect.

Use soil: sweet-scented osmanthus likes fertilizer, it is suitable to use sandy loam with loose fertility and good drainage. The culture soil of potted sweet-scented osmanthus is usually made of pastoral soil, barnyard manure and river sand 1B3. Attention should be paid to disinfection so as not to infect diseases and insect pests.

Cultivation: sweet-scented osmanthus should be planted in early spring or autumn, put a layer of river sand or vermiculite on the bottom of the basin before basin, to facilitate ventilation and drainage, and then cover it with a layer of peat soil or fine mud about 2-3 cm thick, up to the depth of the basin 1B3. Then, put the sweet-scented osmanthus seedlings with soil balls in the roots into the basin, obstruct the soil to cultivate the soil, press it with your fingers, and fill the soil close to the mouth of the basin. The soil surface should be 2-3 cm lower than the mouth of the basin, so as to facilitate watering and fertilization. After planting, it should be watered thoroughly, then moved to the shade for about 10 days, so that its "basin", gradually restore growth.

[fertilizer and water management]

Potted sweet-scented osmanthus needs to be supplemented by fertilization and watering because of its limited pot capacity, lack of nutrients and lack of water. Topdressing should be carried out in the growing season, from June onwards, every 20 days or so combined watering, apply 15% of rotten pig manure and tung bran soaked in liquid fertilizer, or 15% of tung bran and compound fertilizer soaked liquid fertilizer, stop fertilization in early October. In the following year, when the plant grows new leaves, 15% of the above liquid fertilizer will be irrigated every 15 days from April, and the concentration of liquid fertilizer will be increased to 20%, 30% from June to August. If the growth is strong, the times of fertilization and the concentration of fertilizer solution should be reduced; 15% of the above liquid fertilizer should be applied every 20 days from September to October, and Frosts Descent should stop applying fertilizer.

After each fertilization, according to the dry humidity of the basin soil, timely watering, watering times, flexible control according to the climate and growth conditions, the basin soil humidity should be kept in a semi-dry state. It is generally irrigated once in 2-4 days in spring and autumn and 1-3 days in summer. Pay attention to more watering in sunny and dry weather, less or no watering in overcast and rainy days. Sweet-scented osmanthus avoid dampness, avoid stagnant water in the basin, especially in autumn flowering season, too wet will cause falling flowers.

[pruning method]

Mainly winter shears, carried out every year in early spring. In the first winter shearing, according to the size, height and plant shape of the seedlings, the trunk was cut short by 1 to 3 to promote the germination of new shoots in the lower adventitious buds and prune the dense branches properly. After pruning, the withered branches, weak branches, disease and insect branches were cut off, and then 3-5 lateral branches with short internodes, moderate opening angle and uniform spatial distribution were retained, and the other sprouting tillering branches were removed. When pruning the next year, for the overgrowing side branches, keep some basic branches as flower branches, cut the prosperous part short, make it grow harmoniously with other side branches, at the same time, cut off the overgrown branches in summer and autumn, and control the plant height according to the need, combined with topping, hanging and pressing the lower branches to form a good crown structure.

[pose method]

Depending on the tree, set the large frame according to the posture of the tree, and remove other gourd tillers, overdense branches, overgrown branches, cross branches, diseased and weak branches to make it ventilated and transparent. For those who are strong in tree strength and weak in tree strength, the upper branch can be cut short by 1 × 3 to make the whole tree strong, and at the same time, the wound can be protected by applying healing and anticorrosive film at the pruning mouth.

Processing: sweet-scented osmanthus has strong germination and resistance to pruning. After potting in 2012, it will be processed and modeled after blooming in Meiyu season or autumn, and the combination of climbing and pruning will be adopted. The trunk can be truncated into a curved trunk or oblique trunk; those with a higher trunk can be properly cut to make the base sprout new branches without emptiness in the lower part, or re-cut the upper branches and over-dense branches to stimulate new branches in the lower part of the trunk, maintain the balance between the upper and lower parts, and make the tree beautiful and luxuriant.

Tree shape: sweet-scented osmanthus is best made into curved dry type, oblique dry type or floating type. The tree is oblique, with luxuriant branches and leaves, simple and natural, the most enjoyable. When it blossoms, the fragrance is overflowing and refreshing.
