The soil should be kept moist during the growing period, especially when the plants are large in the middle and later stages of growth, there should be no shortage of water, otherwise the stems and leaves are thick and hard, there are many fibers and the quality is poor.

[cultivation management]

Cultivation time: spring, summer, autumn, the south can be potted all the year round.

Cultivation containers: all kinds of flowerpots, wooden boxes, etc.

Mode of reproduction: perilla can be direct seeded or raised and transplanted, and family potted plants can also be planted by cutting.

Soil selection: perilla has strong adaptability, lax soil requirements, good drainage, sandy soil, loam, clay loam, front and back house, ditch edge, fertile soil, good growth, fruit trees can be planted under young forests.

Sowing method: put the culture soil in the basin, flatten it, pour enough water, sow the seeds evenly on the soil surface, cover a layer of thin soil, pay attention to heat preservation and moisturization, and germinate and emerge in 7-10 days. The distance between seedlings was about 15-20cm.

Cutting method: you can take tender shoots on old plants, dry them slightly, leave about 4 leaves in each plant, insert them directly into the basin according to the distance between the fixed plants, irrigate through water, moisturize and shade properly, and can be maintained normally after slow seedling.

Fertilizer and water management: summer is the peak growth period of perilla, the average number of branches of perilla is 25-30, the number of leaves is 300,400, and the number of flowers is as many as 3500, so it is necessary to have sufficient water in the peak growth period, and apply fast-acting fertilizer 2-3 times, combined with leaves and spray nutrient solution.

Pruning and heart-picking: perilla has strong branching power. During the growing period, we should pay attention to removing the branches in time, so as to facilitate the ventilation and light transmission and rapid growth of plants. Generally, 3 pairs of leaves are left to cross and pick the heart.

Harvest stems and leaves: young stems and leaves can be harvested at any time under family cultivation. If the young leaves are harvested and eaten, they can be picked at any time as long as the leaves grow to a certain size, and the tips that have undergone flower bud differentiation can be removed at any time, so that they do not bloom and maintain the exuberant growth of stems and leaves. For ornamental purposes, some stems and leaves should be removed properly to reduce the consumption of nutrients.
