Dahlia is not only colorful, but also very rich in color, luxuriant branches and leaves, and relatively tall plant shape. If you want to plant in a pot, you generally choose a dwarf variety, which has an underground tuber, which is often called a bulb. Therefore, we can usually use ball potted plants. So, how do you grow dahlia bulbs?

First, build a drainage layer

Dahlias have tuberous roots, which usually store a lot of nutrients and water. Therefore, Dahlia is more drought-tolerant, but it is not resistant to waterlogging. In order to avoid rotting roots caused by excessive watering, in addition to using basin soil with good permeability, it is also recommended to make a good drainage layer at the bottom of the basin in advance. The drainage layer can be built with large particles of ceramsite or broken pottery pieces.

2. Preparation of basin soil

Dahlia likes a slightly acidic basin soil environment that is fertile and loose, breathable and permeable, and rich in humus, so we can use garden soil, rotten leaf soil, sand and dry dung according to the ratio of 5 to 5. Never use clayey soil, otherwise it is easy to harden. And usually also often observe the ability of basin soil to infiltrate water, loosen the soil regularly. Because the fleshy root of Dahlia contains a lot of water, and it is not water-resistant, it is easy to rot when it is overwatered and the basin soil is airtight.

Third, potted root tuber

After setting up the drainage layer in the flowerpot, cover it with a deep layer of soil, about 1 / 3 of the height of the flowerpot, and then place the budding head of the dahlia tuber upward in the pot. Then continue to fill the soil, covering depth of 3-6 cm is appropriate. Pay attention to filling the soil, do not compact the soil, thinking that many potted friends have this habit when potting other flowers and plants. Otherwise, if the root of Dahlia has tender buds, it is easy to break the buds, thus affecting the survival.

Fourth, watering and placing

After the completion of pot planting, the original needs to be watered in time to ensure that there is suitable humidity for the root growth of Dahlia tubers in the potted soil. Then move the flowerpot to a sunny place with good ventilation and relative dryness for maintenance. In this way, we have finished using balls to plant dahlias.

When using bulbs to plant plants and grow dahlias, you usually need to master the following points:

1. Dahlia likes deep soil, the depth of the selected pot should be large, and the permeability should be good, do not use shallow and small light flowerpots.

2. Neutral or acidic sandy soil should be used to raise dahlias, and heavy clayey soil should not be used, otherwise it is easy to consolidate and reduce air permeability and water permeability, resulting in rotting roots after stagnant water.

3. Dahlias are resistant to drought and waterlogging, so watering should be controlled and should not be excessive, otherwise the roots are easy to rot after stagnant water.

4. Dahlias like to be warm and not cold-resistant, so the temperature should be controlled well, and the aboveground parts will die in winter, so timely measures should be taken to keep warm and keep cold, so as to ensure that the underground stems will not be frozen.

5. Dahlias like light, especially during the growing period and flowering period, to provide sufficient light, avoid the environment is too shady and lack of light.

6. Dahlias usually have tall stems and should be placed in places where there is no strong wind. If necessary, they can also set up frames to avoid lodging.
