We should seek a simpler and easier method of operation in the basic operating process and rules. Everything has its own law of evolution. Can we better grasp this law? can we change this law scientifically and effectively in practice? to make it easier for people to grasp this law, to simplify concepts, to break traditional restrictions, this is the subject that contemporary bonsai people need to study.

Of course, bonsai must be the art of stone and wood. Restricted by materials, it is useless to talk about a set of theoretical ideas. In the actual production, in addition to a profound grasp of oriental traditional culture and art, more should be to make full use of material characteristics, as much as possible to show more spirituality. Pure rock bonsai seems to be somewhat similar to modern installation art, its production process is more material selection and combination of towers, its form of expression is more free, but the use of traditional aesthetic language.

Tree stump bonsai production, its limitations are even greater, the starting material often has many irreparable defects, and the complicated branches are difficult to make people cut decisively. When I first trimmed the stump, I only relied on that little bit of artistic accomplishment, followed the principle of simplicity and elegance, and strived to achieve maximum simplicity and elegance without losing the balance of shape (maybe it doesn't count in the eyes of professionals). Due to the great differences in the types, sizes and beads of the selected plants, it is difficult to say that there are any specific rules for the production and cultivation of bonsai trees, and what is more often needed is something called "aesthetic feeling". This seems to be a little similar to the inspiration of some modern artists.

The production of bonsai trees can not be done in a day, and daily pruning is more important than one-time surprise pruning. Helplessly, I always wandered around these years, and every time I came home, I found that the stump that had been trimmed last time had become luxuriant again, so I had to make a surprise cut, but it was hard to say how high the aesthetic elegance of the bonsai was. This is also a kind of helplessness.

The production of large stump bonsai often takes a long time, while the corresponding small bonsai is often easier to shape and faster. I still remember that two years ago, I found a wild firethorn seedling on the side of the mountain road and planted it in a small square basin to make a chic small bonsai with a bit of elegance. Helplessly, when I got home this time, I found that I had no chance to see it, let alone make meticulous trimming.

What I have to say is that bonsai production, like other arts, is important to have a quiet mind. If you keep the mentality of how to sell bonsai at a good price all day, you can't make bonsai well. If you want to find shortcuts to make money, it's best not to borrow the name of art. This is the rule of any kind of art.
