Last Updated: 2024/09/20, Most potted people think that purple sand basin is more suitable for growing bonsai than porcelain basin, because the wall of purple sand basin is permeable, which is beneficial to the growth and development of root system, plant grows well and root retting can be avoided. This is not the case with porcelain pots. Even if they use porcelain pots to plant plants, they also make a fuss on the inner wall of the pots.

Most potted people think that purple sand basin is more suitable for growing bonsai than porcelain basin, because the wall of purple sand basin is permeable, which is beneficial to the growth and development of root system, plant grows well and root retting can be avoided. On the other hand, the porcelain basin is not the case. even if many people plant plants in the porcelain basin, they also make a fuss on the inner wall of the pot. in fact, it is difficult to say whether they can really play an imaginary role.

In fact, through comparison, it is found that purple sand basin and porcelain basin have their own advantages and disadvantages: purple sand basin must be watered frequently, sometimes greatly, even twice or more times a day in summer, because the basin wall is breathable and permeable, and the soil water is scattered and lost its happiness. The disadvantages of watering too many times are obvious.

First, it takes time and time and water.

Second, the environment in the basin soil changes frequently, which is not conducive to the growth and development of roots.

Third, there are many times of watering, and the time of low air content in the basin soil is more, and the basin is no exception.

Fourth, if there are many times of watering, it is easy to alkalize the basin soil and lose nutrients. Fifth, watering many times, it is not easy to buckle water, and increase the chance of overgrowth of plants, especially bonsai of flowers and fruits, because buckling water can make plants short and strong, pregnant buds, blossom and fruit-setting effective measures. It is not easy to buckle water, which is disadvantageous to the bonsai of flowers and fruits. The air permeability and water permeability of porcelain basin wall are lower than that of purple sand basin, and the water loss mainly depends on basin evaporation and plant transpiration, and the rate of water loss is much slower than that of purple sand basin.

The advantages of porcelain pots are also obvious, especially in the maintenance of sketch bonsai:

First of all, the number of watering can be greatly reduced, saving labor, time and water, and need not be carried out too frequently.

Secondly, due to the reduction of watering times, the alkali damage and nutrient loss of basin soil were reduced accordingly.

Third, lengthen the interval of two watering, so that the number of root soaking is reduced, and the change of the environment in the basin soil tends to slow down, so the time suitable for root growth and development becomes longer. When the potted soil is dry and wet and suitable for the growth of miniature bonsai, cover the potted surface with water moss and other things, the effect is better.

Fourth, it is convenient to buckle water. Fifth, reduce the chances of growing up, and so on. These are very important for sketch bonsai, especially those requiring low and strong, pregnant buds, flowering and fruiting.

Matters needing attention in porcelain pot planting:

First of all, the planting medium with good water permeability should be selected.

Secondly, drainage layer should be laid at the bottom of the basin.

Third, in strict accordance with the principle of dry and thorough watering, do not dry resolutely do not water, the surface is very dry, but not dry below, the plant has no drought characteristics should be slowly watered; fourth, after watering, put a well-ventilated place, do not get caught in the rain; do not water as much as possible on rainy days, and water small water when necessary, and water thoroughly on sunny days.

In addition, in summer to avoid hot sun exposure, to prevent high temperature injury roots of the basin, water moss and other things can be used to cover the basin. The above is my experience of many years of practice, so there is no need to avoid using porcelain pots to grow flowers, you can use pots for local reasons.
