Banana export sales in Taiwan: the Director of Agriculture and Food said that he is confident that banana export will exceed 10,000 metric tons this year.
Taiwan banana export is expected to exceed 10,000 metric tons this year! Hu Zhongyi, director of the Agriculture and Food Administration, attended the signing ceremony of banana export cooperation on the 10th. At the meeting, he said that in addition to the banana export contract signed on the 10th, 500 tons of bananas will be exported to Japan this year. At the Tokyo Food Show in March, Qishan Green Fruit Cooperative and Taiwan International Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. also signed export orders of 2,000 tons and 1,000 tons of bananas with Japanese operators, respectively. This year, we are confident of breaking the target of 10,000 metric tons of bananas for export.
According to the statistics of the Council of Agriculture, banana exports reached 1585 metric tons in 1995, 1110 metric tons in 106 and 1872 metric tons in 107, and reached 1360 metric tons as of May 9 this year. Japan is the main exporter, but compared with exports of more than 400000 tons in the past year, banana export has declined significantly.
Hu Zhongyi, director of the Agriculture and Food Administration, said that in order to assist banana export, the Agriculture and Food Administration integrated banana producers from all over the world to form a banana industry strategic alliance last year, and this year it even formed a banana export platform, hoping to increase banana export this year to more than 10,000 metric tons. Hu Zhongyi said that the banana export order signed with Japan's Arai Commercial Co., Ltd. on the 10th is expected to export 1 container of bananas per week, about 6 metric tons per week, and will increase to 18 tons per week when bananas are abundant. It is expected to export 500 metric tons by the end of the year, 1500 metric tons in 109 and 3,000 metric tons in 110 years.
Chen Li-Yi, head of the Fruit Industry Section of the crop production Section of the Agriculture and Food Department, explained that due to price and other reasons, the Philippines is currently the largest importer of bananas in the Japanese market, although bananas in Taiwan are more expensive than bananas in the Philippines. However, because the growing period of bananas in Taiwan is longer than that in the Philippines, bananas in Taiwan are softer and more fragrant, and are popular with high-end consumers in Japan. Therefore, the banana channels in Taiwan all go to high-end channels such as department stores.
"Taiwan bananas are well-known in Japan," says Ryo-San Arai, president of Japan's Arai Commercial Co., Ltd. in particular, the elderly miss the taste of Taiwan bananas, so they want to cooperate with Taiwanese companies to give the Japanese an aftertaste of Taiwan bananas. What are the advantages of Taiwan bananas over Filipino bananas? Liangzo Arai points out that many Japanese buy Filipino bananas because of the price factor, but the elderly do not mind the price, but want to eat delicious bananas, so there is still a certain market for bananas in Taiwan.
According to the statistics of the Council of Agriculture, the banana planting area in Pingtung reached 4323 hectares in 106, making it the largest producing area in China. Pan Meng-an, head of Pingtung County, said that banana export once created Taiwan's economic prosperity, but with the change of the international trade situation, Philippine bananas took the place of Taiwan. Now, through the joint efforts of the government and farmers to break through the difficulties of quarantine and cold chain, it is just around the corner to return to the Japanese banana market.
Japan Arai Commercial Co., Ltd. has more than 200 supermarkets and other channels in Japan, purchasing Taiwan's high-quality bananas for the first time through Taiwan Yumoya Enterprise Co., Ltd.
