The progress of mining reform has been delayed, and the revision of the Mining Law has been reviewed 11 times in three years, and enhanced protection has been provided for the development of new mines, but it has been frequently blocked when dealing with issues such as the extension of "existing mining rights." Liao Guodong, a legislator named around the delegation, repeatedly used the "Aboriginal Special Chapter" as an excuse to prevent the amendment from being carried out. A number of aboriginal youth groups and ring groups held a press conference yesterday (9), requesting that the bill be sent to the hospital as soon as possible in the current session, so that the protection of aboriginal and environmental rights can be effectively implemented.

Aboriginal youth: if the practice of the law is too much, the transformation of justice is "a great failure"

South Australia is the densest mining town in Taiwan. Dou Li said that when I was a child, my impression was that someone had been mining in the mountains, and many people in the tribe would ask when they could stop work, but no one could have a clear answer. Up to now, the mining law has finally made some progress, but there are frequent hurdles in the face of the door, and we have not seen the relevant responses and achievements of the former civil legislators.

He said angrily that if even the original people's Association, the competent authority of the original basic Law, did not express its opposition to such an amendment, "then both the original basic Law and the original people's Association could be abolished directly."

Chen Yizhen, chairman of the Taiwan Aboriginal Policy Association, believes that the amendment to the Mining Law is not only the key to the long-term transformation of the mining industry, but also a concrete act to implement "transformational justice." She criticized, "what on earth is the reason why it cannot be passed when all legislators have reached a consensus?" But why are the presidential palace, the Executive Yuan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the indigenous people so different? "if even the case of the obvious infringement of the rights and interests of the indigenous people by the mining law cannot be resolved, transitional justice will be a very failure," she said. "

The ring delegation called for the third reading of the mining law negotiation to be completed as soon as possible next Thursday.

At the end of the press conference, the Taiwan Aboriginal Policy Association, the South Australian Youth Action Alliance, the Taroko Youth Association, the Earth Citizen Foundation and the Taiwan ambitious foot Ecological Association jointly hoped that legislator Liao Guodong would honor the promise made by the political parties two weeks ago to arrange and complete the consultation on the mining law next Thursday (May 16), and send the bill to the hospital level for consultation and third reading as soon as possible, so as to actively promote the progress of amending the mining law.
