Last Updated: 2024/11/06, In order to provide farmers with early warning, the Council of Agriculture announced on the 9th that it will provide customized weather forecasts for 57 important cultivation areas from the flood season in May this year, and mark disaster warning areas, crop items and individual disaster prevention actions in the form of graphic cards.

In recent years, extreme weather such as short-term heavy rainfall has often occurred. In order to provide farmers with early warning, the Council of Agriculture announced on the 9th that starting from the flood season in May this year, 57 important cultivation areas will be provided with "customized weather forecasts." disaster warning areas, crop items, and individual disaster prevention actions will be marked by chart cards.

Chen Junji, vice chairman of the Council of Agriculture, said that disaster prevention and response strategies include peacetime, before, during and after disasters. For disaster prevention in peacetime, farmers sometimes need other data such as soil temperature and sunshine in addition to air temperature and rainfall. Therefore, in recent years, the Council of Agriculture has completed 130 exclusive agricultural meteorological stations with the Central Meteorological Bureau, the National disaster Prevention and Rescue Science and Technology Center, weather risk companies and other public and private departments, hoping to improve the accuracy of agrometeorology.

The Council of Agriculture also officially launched the "customized Weather Forecast" this year, with the first wave providing an early warning mechanism for 57 important cultivation areas, including Yuzi in Taichung Peace District, Puli Town in Nantou, spring onions and pears in Sanxing Township of Ilan. Chen Junji gave an example. Assuming that a typhoon passes through the northeast corner, pears in Ilan may be harmed. If the pears bear fruit, farmers should strengthen their disaster prevention preparations, but if the harvest time of pears has passed. Farmers only need a little pruning.

With regard to agricultural disaster insurance, Han Baozhu, chief secretary of the Agricultural Finance Bureau, said that agricultural disaster insurance was promoted in 104 years. As of May 9, 15 disaster insurance policies for agricultural, fishery and livestock products have been opened. The number of insured items has reached 10, 7279 and the insured area has reached 20, 8402 hectares. The number of insured items is growing.

As for the actions taken before the disaster, Chen Junji said that the preparation of irrigation and water conservancy and flood control had been completed by the end of April, with 127mobile pumps being built throughout Taiwan, and 130.96 metric tons of soil and stone cleared from rivers and wild streams. Chen Junji also said that before a disaster occurs, apart from publicizing disaster prevention and preparedness through the media, farmers will also be reminded to be alert through APP.

With regard to the disaster return mechanism, Chen Junji pointed out that in addition to inventory, farmers will also be promoted to search through APP returns and community websites to obtain real-time disaster images and integrate them into the agricultural disaster information network. As for the restoration of farmland after the disaster, Chen Junji said: in the past, if a disaster occurred, natural cash assistance had to be surveyed by local public offices, which was very labor-intensive. Therefore, the Council of Agriculture has amended 12 measures for agricultural natural disaster relief. Agricultural natural disaster exploration can be assisted by science and technology. Chiayi County and Hualien County will be the first wave of pilot counties and cities, which are expected to save a week compared with manpower survey, helping farmers to speed up their rehabilitation.

In addition, outsiders are worried that the disaster will lead to a rise in the price of agricultural products. Chen Junji said that in 108 years, local governments applied for 402.8 metric tons of disaster grain reserves, and the Council of Agriculture used rolling warehouses to store 3,000 metric tons of refrigerated vegetables and 600 metric tons of root vegetables. Ko Sheng-chih, head of the planning team of the Agriculture and Food Department, explained that at present, 3600 tons of various types of vegetables have been prepared in local cooperatives, and in the event of disasters, the demand for vegetable supply and market will be appropriately released. At present, contracts have been drawn up to allow emergency imports if necessary.

The Council of Agriculture announced on the 9th that it will provide customized weather forecasts for 57 important cultivation areas starting from the flood season in May this year.
