In general, if green tube-grown celery (celery tube) encounters high temperatures in summer, it will reduce production due to poor fertility conditions. Taichung District Agricultural improvement Farm took eight years to develop, and a new variety of celery tube "Taichung No. 1" was bred. The yield of celery tube planted in summer is 20% higher than that of the general early species. At present, the technology has been transferred to manufacturers and can be eaten in the second half of the year at the earliest.

According to the variety, celery tube can be divided into early, middle and late growing. Early growing celery is planted in late August, middle growing in September, and late growing after October. If early growing celery meets high temperature in summer, besides low yield, the plant will also be smaller, resulting in lower commodity value.

Dai Zhenyang, an associate researcher at Taichung No. 1, said that the celery tube strain was so complex that it took eight years to develop Taichung No. 1. Dai Zhenyang also said that compared with early-growing celery in the past, Taichung-1 can be planted early in the central plain and grow better. In summer, the average yield per hectare can reach 21580 kg, which is more than 20% higher than that of ordinary varieties. It is expected to replace the general early-growing celery tube.

Dai Zhenyang explains that in addition to heat resistance and good yield, Taichung 1 also has the advantages of green leaves, rich petiole aroma, an average weight of 105 grams per plant, an average plant height of 62.9 centimeters, and a good selling appearance. At present, "Taichung No. 1" has obtained the plant variety right, and it also applied for the technical license of the variety right in October last year. Dai Zhenyang said that consumers can eat "Taichung No. 1" as soon as the second half of this year.

In addition, according to the Agricultural products Market Trading Network, the auction price of celery was 41.8 yuan per kilogram in 1997 and 42 yuan per kilogram in 106 years.
