Agricultural land in Taiwan is as expensive as sky-high prices, and tens of millions of dollars per hectare often take off. In order to help young farmers acquire land, the Council of Agriculture and Taiwan Sugar signed a memorandum of cooperation. In the first stage, 94 hectares of land and 16 warm-net rooms were released for use by young farmers at a preferential rent. In the follow-up, 200 hectares of farmland will be released to benefit more farmers. Chen Jizhong, chairman of the Council of Agriculture, said that in addition to Taiwan Sugar land, the Council of Agriculture will act as a "agricultural land leasing platform" to encourage the release of more land through models such as subsidizing landlords. 5,000 hectares have been initially counted, and planning details are expected to be presented within a month.

Taiwan Sugar: release land for leasing by young farmers, or adopt deed mode

Huang Yuzheng, chairman of Taiwan Sugar, said that in order to provide land for green farmers, in the first stage, sugar-owned farms will be released, including Yunlin Marguang, Huwei, Douliu, Tainan Shanhua, Xinhua, Hushan, Guantian, and Kaohsiung Yan Nest, totaling 94.1 hectares of farmland and 16 greenhouses, which will be rented by young farmers at preferential prices.

Huang said that in addition to providing land for rent, young farmers will be recruited to organic farms to become farmers of Taiwan Sugar, and a marketing network will be set up through the supply of school lunch materials, farmers' bazaars, and so on. work with young farmers to create a new agriculture that can reverse the land culture.

As for the qualifications of rented farmers, Su Menglan, deputy director of the guidance Office of the Council of Agriculture, said that the 94 hectares released in the first stage will initially be leased to 100 green farmers and those counseled in Tainan, Yunlin, and Kaohsiung counties and cities. Friendly and organic agriculture will give priority to leasing, but it is not limited to this. Detailed selection mechanisms and methods are still under discussion and are expected to be proposed by the end of May.

The land leasing platform is expected to release 5,000 hectares of agricultural land for rental.

Chen Jizhong says that the average price of agricultural land in Taiwan is more than 30 million or even as high as 60 million per hectare, making it the most expensive agricultural land in the world. It is almost impossible to buy your own land for farming in the future. apart from the release of land by Taiwan Sugar, the Council of Agriculture will promote a "farmland leasing platform", which has already counted 5,000 hectares of agricultural land, which is not currently available for immediate use. By subsidizing landlords, for example, 30 ─ per hectare per year, a large amount of land will be released for rent by young farmers.

Chen said that promoting the "farmland leasing platform" not only aims to solve the plight of young farmers with no land availability, but also hopes that through the model undertaken by the government, landlords do not have to dare to lease for a long time because of the shadow of "375 rent reduction". At the same time, after the operation of the platform, government subsidies for various industries in the future can be allocated directly to the actual farmers, so that the policy can really take care of the farming community.

Wang Yuzhen, head of the farmland utilization section of the Planning Office of the Council of Agriculture, said that the plan is being checked by the Agriculture and Food Department, and the details will be announced in the future.

Farmers: only with stable land can we stabilize production.

Xie Bingyin, a farmer from Gui Renqing, said that he and several other young farmers rented Taiwan Sugar land for farming, because the land was stable and stable, so they did not have to worry about being forced to move out. "We all came back unemployed. We don't want to be unemployed again," Xie Bingyin said. Farmers also hope to have a good promotion pipeline and gradually establish a complete equipment production line, so that the area can be gradually expanded from 5 hectares. You can use the planned production to negotiate orders with the channel.

Lin Jianyou, president of the Tainan Youth Peasants Association, says that he is happy to see TSC release fertile land for young farmers to move in, and there is no need to worry about the landlords raising the rent, or if the landlords find that farming can make money, they will resume the land and do it themselves. farmers can concentrate on production.
