Taichung 6, a new variety of kidney beans (min beans), is expected to become the new main force in the export of frozen vegetables after edamame beans. According to the statistics of the Council of Agriculture, Taiwan's vegetable exports reached 69000 metric tons, with Japan as the main exporter, and frozen edamame beans, which were mainly exported to Japan in 1987, were the largest. Lin Xueshi, director of the agricultural improvement farm in Taichung District of the Council of Agriculture, said that edamame beans had a gap period from October to February next year, coupled with the high market demand for bean products in Japan, so they carried out research and development of new varieties of kidney beans.

Lin said that the plant variety right has been obtained in March this year (2019), and it is expected to become one of the main export forces of frozen vegetables together with frozen edamame beans in the future.

It is better to cultivate "cold card" water control.

On the other hand, Lin put forward some key points for attention on the planting of "Taichung 6". He explained that dwarf beans prefer a colder environment and avoid planting after the hot weather begins in March, which will result in poor podding and pod quality. sowing can be based on the current cultivation model of edamame beans, with a sowing rate of about 8 kg to 10 kg per minute. Kidney beans are not water-tolerant, but the seeds are highly absorbent, so special attention should be paid to water control in the field. For harvest, the best harvest period is when more than 85% of the pods of the whole plant reach eight full points.

Lin said that kidney beans also participated in the "Taichung 6" food exhibition in Tokyo in March, which received a good response from the Japanese side. The Frozen fruits and vegetables Trade Union also said that it is currently at the stage of inviting Japanese manufacturers to try it out. Yongchuan Frozen Food Industry Co., Ltd., which is mainly responsible for the export of frozen edamame beans to Japan, said that after the Japanese side tried it, it thought that "Taichung 6" tasted good, but in terms of color, it was not deep enough for the Japanese market. At present, Japanese operators are still under consideration.
