Hawthorn, also known as sour jujube, red fruit, sour red, it is the fruit of a deciduous tree. When it comes to Hawthorn, the first thing we think of is Crispy Sugar-Coated Fruit, Hawthorn slices, Hawthorn cake and other food, and instantly feel a great increase in appetite. Indeed, the main function of Hawthorn is for appetizer and treatment of indigestion, but it is prohibited for pregnant women. Today, let's learn the breeding method of Hawthorn.

1. Seed propagation

When Hawthorn is propagating with seeds, we need to select good seeds first; seeds should choose seeds with full grains, no diseases and insect pests, no external harm and good quality. Then mix the seeds with wet sand, put them into a deep ditch with a depth of about 70 to 80 centimeters, and cover a layer of sand with a thickness of about 30 to 40 centimeters for sand storage treatment. Wait until next autumn to dig up the seeds and sow them, or sow them in the spring of the third year. When sowing, we usually use the way of strip sowing, the distance between each strip is 20 cm, evenly sow the seeds, cover the soil to cover the seeds, and then cover a thin layer of sand, water again, and finally wait for the emergence of seedlings. When the seedlings grow to about 30 centimeters, transplant them in spring, summer or autumn.

2. Cuttage propagation

There is a certain difference between Hawthorn cutting propagation and other fruit tree cutting propagation, it is not using branch cutting, but using root tillers for cutting. Then we need to dig out the root tillers of the Hawthorn tree before cutting, and then choose the root which is about 0.5 cm to 1 cm thick as the cutting root. After selecting the cuttage root, cut it into a small section of about 13 or 14 centimeters, then mix the wet sand with rooting agent, put the root section into the wet sand for about a week, and finally insert the treated root cuttings into the nursery ground, which can emerge in about half a month. Cutting propagation is best carried out in spring, so that its survival rate will be much higher.

3. Grafting propagation

Hawthorn propagation can also be carried out by grafting, and Hawthorn grafting can be carried out at any time except in winter. Before grafting Hawthorn, we first need to use seed propagation to cultivate Hawthorn seedlings as rootstocks, and the second is to select high-quality Hawthorn branches as scions. In grafting, we usually use bud grafting, branch grafting, leaning grafting and other methods, but the most commonly used method is bud grafting. The grafting tools should be disinfected before grafting to avoid bacterial infection. the second is to fix them with plastic film or grafting clip after grafting, and wait until new branches and leaves grow at the grafting site before they can be removed.

The above methods are commonly used in Hawthorn planting. Among them, seed propagation is the most traditional planting method, and grafting is the most commonly used way in production at present, which can not only improve the quality of Hawthorn, but also promote the premature production of Hawthorn.
