What's the difference between bowl lilies and water lilies? When is the right time to plant it? How much is the seed price per jin? (attached hydroponics method)
The bowl lotus, which often refers to the small and medium-sized type of lotus, has the same scientific name as the lotus. Also known as potted lotus, pot lotus, table lotus, belongs to the family Nymphaeaceae. So what's the difference between it and water lilies? When is the right time to plant it? How much is the seed price per jin? From the flower and tree base in Suqian, Jiangsu Province, it is learned that generally, bowl lotus seeds are sold by seeds, each about one yuan. And water lilies are mainly propagated by root, so if you buy seeds, you should screen them carefully and don't buy fake seeds.
What's the difference between bowl lilies and water lilies?
1. Water lilies are also called meridian lilies, pink water lilies, wild water lilies, dwarf water lilies, and dwarf water lilies. The flowers are large and beautiful, and the leaves have both floating and submerged leaves. The flower characteristics of water lilies are remarkable. They bloom during the day and close at night. The petals are white, blue, yellow and pink.
Water lilies are rarely planted at home, except in larger courtyards and ponds, and the more common is the greening of water bodies in parks.
The bowl lotus is also called white lotus, hibiscus and lotus, but the bowl lotus is not the real lotus. The leaves of bowl lotus are round, and the leaves are floating leaves and standing leaves. The flowering period of bowl lotus is from June to September, and the colors of flowers are red, pink, white, purple, colored grain and edge.
2. The most intuitive difference between bowl lilies and water lilies is that the smallest planting container of bowl lilies is a bowl, and the smallest container of water lilies is a jar. The size of the plant can be seen from the size of the container. The bowl lotus is smaller, but it is moved indoors and raised on the balcony. Water lilies are large and suitable for planting in courtyards or garden vats and pools.
3. The leaves of bowl lilies and water lilies are completely different. The leaves of the bowl lotus are round, and the stem is made in the middle, with a small white dot, floating leaves or standing leaves. Although the leaves of water lilies are also round, there is a gap on one side of the leaf, and the formation point of the stem is on the side of the gap.
4. The petals of Wanlian are almost round, and the leaves are concentrated, small and smart. And the color of the bowl lotus is relatively single, generally only red and yellow two colors, and the size is about 5 cm. Most importantly, a bowl of lotus leaves lovely little lotus seeds after it blossoms.
The petals of the sleeping lotus are long and narrow, the flowers are slightly larger, and the water lilies come in a variety of colors, red, pink, white and yellow. There is nothing left after flowering.
5. Both water lilies and water lilies belong to the family Nymphaeaceae, and their basic morphology and growth habits are the same, but bowl lilies belong to lotus and water lilies belong to water lilies. Different genera determine that there are obvious morphological differences between them.
6. Bowl lotus is not cold-resistant. Family breeding should be moved indoors in winter to avoid frostbite. Water lilies generally spend the winter outdoors, wither on the ground, grow leaves again in spring next year, and strengthen their cold tolerance.
When is the right time to plant bowl lotus?
Before and after the Qingming Festival, the bowl lotus can be planted with a thick layer of 3~4cm humus soil at the bottom of the tank and mixed with some rotten cake fertilizer liquid. Then pad into the culture soil (above need to leave 5~6cm along the mouth for water storage) and a small amount of water, adjust to a thin paste, and then put the top bud of the small lotus root down, oblique along the edge of the tank into the mud, so that the tail section is warped up, slightly exposed to the mud surface, and placed in the sunny place to receive sunlight for 2-3 days to make the mud shrink, fix the lotus root, raise the soil temperature and facilitate sprouting. At this time, add a small amount of water, wait for the floating leaves to grow, and then slightly raise the water level, until the vertical leaves grow out, gradually fill the tank with the elongation of the petiole, and then add some water every day. During the growth of lotus, there is no need to apply fertilizer. Fertilizing too much will lead to fertilizer damage. The bowl lotus is delicate and vulnerable to freezing. At the beginning of winter, you should move the bowl into the sunny place indoors and add a small amount of water every week. Wait until the Qingming Festival next year to turn the basin, take out the lotus root and replant it.

1. Sowing time: Lotus seeds have no dormancy period. As long as the water temperature is kept above 16 ℃, the seeds can be sown in four seasons. Under the conditions of suitable temperature and light, it takes 50-60 days from sowing to flowering in spring and 60-80 days in autumn.
2. Seed treatment: the shell of the lotus seed is hard and dense, and the lotus seed must be artificially broken before soaking. There is a small protruding tip on one end of the lotus seed and a small concave spot on the other. Grind the small concave end on the rough cement floor or make a small cut with tiger pliers. Be careful not to pinch the embryo or remove the shell.
3. Soaking seeds to promote germination: the summer water temperature of 20 ℃-30 ℃ is very suitable for lotus seed germination, depending on how much water is filled in bowls or pots to soak the seeds. It can also be placed indoors and outdoors. Change the water three times a day and sprout within a week. After sprouting, put it in the sunny place to strengthen the light and can not lack of water. When the root system is formed, it can enter the mud.
4. Enter the mud: choose a bottomless container with caliber 18cm~50cm and depth 15cm~30cm, add half a basin of pond mud in the basin, and do not apply fertilizer.
5. Autumn and winter management: the lotus root of bowl lotus is delicate and vulnerable to freezing damage. When a low temperature comes, it should be stored in a place of 5 degrees. Winter is the dormant period of bowl lotus, which does not need photosynthesis to deepen the water level and pass the winter safely. The lotus root can be taken out and replanted around the Qingming Festival in the coming year.
