Watermelon can be said to be a very popular fruit in China. As the temperature rises gradually, it is about to enter the summer. Watermelon also gradually ushered in the peak season of the market. Now is the best time for watermelon planting, and many farmers have gradually begun to sow watermelons. So how to operate it exactly? The following editor brings you the techniques of sowing and raising seedlings of watermelons. Let's have a look!

1. Nursery bed selection

The seedbed is very important for seed germination. Before sowing, a suitable planting plot should be selected as the seedling bed of watermelon. The nursery bed should choose a place with leeward, sufficient light and sufficient soil fertility. Then set up a reasonable frame according to the planting area to facilitate the growth of watermelon. After selecting a good site, we should simply improve the soil, turn the soil deeply, and then dig trenches to fertilize the soil to improve the soil fertility. It is not suitable to water at this time, because watering will lead to soil consolidation and seriously affect the growth of watermelons.

2. Seed selection and soaking

The selection of watermelon seeds is closely related to the yield. When we select seeds, we must choose the improved varieties in the market, and choose the suitable varieties according to the local market demand and environment. After selecting the seeds, soak the seeds in warm water for about 10 hours to end the dormancy period of the seeds. Then soak the seeds in the solution for about 2 hours and carry out sterilization and disinfection. Finally, wrap the seeds with a wet cloth and put them at a temperature of about 22-24 degrees to do the germination work. Properly spray water every day to maintain humidity, and when about 90% of the seeds are white, they can be sown.

3. Sowing seeds at the right time

When the preparation of the seed is done, the seed can be sown in time. First of all, it is necessary to dig the sowing hole in the seedbed, put about 3 seeds in each hole, and the plant spacing should be controlled at about 4cm. After sowing, it is necessary to do a good job of management, cover a layer of fine soil and then cover a layer of plastic film. Do a good job in the temperature and humidity control of the nursery bed, if the temperature fluctuation is large. Then it is also necessary to cover a layer of straw on the seedling bed to improve the heat preservation capacity of the soil and promote seed germination. Before the seeds break the soil, we should pay attention not to do ventilation work to avoid hindering the germination of seeds.

4. Daily management

Ventilation should be done after seed emergence. When the seedlings grow to about 5cm, the seedlings should be refined reasonably to improve the growth ability of the seedlings. Then prepare a nutrition bowl full of humus and transfer the seedlings to the nutrition bowl. Pick out the seedlings with weak growth, poor growth and diseases and insect pests, all of which should be watered in time to ensure the healthy growth of the seedlings. Then the temperature should be controlled at about 20 degrees, and the temperature should not be lower than 18 degrees at night, otherwise it will inhibit the growth of seedlings. The daytime temperature should not exceed 26 degrees, otherwise it will lead to excessive growth of seedlings and reduce the survival rate of colonization. Finally, transplanting is carried out when the seedlings grow to about 11 centimeters.

The above is a brief introduction to the sowing and breeding techniques of watermelon. The sowing technology of watermelon directly determines the growth ability and yield of watermelon, so we must pay more attention to it. That's all for today's introduction.
