Daffodils are loved by many people, which are different from other perennial herbaceous flowers. It has the characteristics of growing in autumn, blooming in winter, storing nutrients in spring, and dormant in summer. If you want to plant daffodils, do you choose the big one or the small one? How do you plant it? Why cut the ball?

First, is it better to choose a big one or a small one for daffodils?

In terms of size alone, the big bulb is better than the small one, but the selection of daffodils bulbs should be considered from the following aspects.

(1) shape: high-quality daffodil bulbs are generally large, flat and hard, with wide stripes of longitudinal veins in the epidermis, tight media, bright skin color, broad and thick root disc, and symmetrical bulbs beside the main bulb.

(2) look at the color: from the outside, the bulb is dark brown, the capsule is intact, the color is bright, and there are no signs of decay and insect pests.

(3) pressing: pressing is the main means to select and identify the number of daffodils arrows. Can use thumb and index finger to hold the bulb, press a little hard, feel the outline is columnar, elastic, more solid, for flower arrow; feel soft, the outline is flat, the elasticity is slightly less, then mostly leaf buds.

(4) Wenzhuang: daffodil producing areas are generally packed in bamboo baskets of the same size, and there are four packaging specifications for 20, 30, 40 and 50 bulbs in each basket, commonly known as 20, 30, 40 and 50. The smaller the number of bulbs per basket, the larger the bulb. The bulbs with large individuals have many and stout branches, and the flower buds contain a large number of flowers.

Second, why do daffodils cut balls?

1. The flower buds can grow as soon as possible, because the outer skin of the flower buds will be cut open when the balls are cut.

2. After cutting the ball, the flower bud will grow stronger, because it does not need to use extra nutrients to break the outer skin.

3, this is more advantageous to the flower friends who like to carve, cutting the ball can also be carved to create different plant types for it.

4. It can improve the viewing degree of plants, especially during flowering. Because when cutting the ball, the outer skin can be completely removed, such as withered yellow, withered and so on, which can play a cleaning role.

The way to cut the ball:

1. Cut directly in the middle of the two lateral buds and cut at a depth of about 1 cm of the thickness of the ball wall. Friends do not have to worry about cutting the middle buds, because the middle buds usually grow in the middle of the ball and are very thin, and the ball is much more than 1 cm thick.

2. After cutting one side, turn to the back, also cut a knife, and then break it along the seam.

Third, how to grow daffodils?

Daffodils like sunshine and warmth, and require high humidity in the air, not very cold-resistant, and afraid of heat, and the vegetative growth period needs wet sandy soil without stagnant water.

There are two methods to cultivate Narcissus: water culture and soil culture.

1. Hydroponic culture of daffodils

(1) first peel off the black old stem of the ball, scrape off the old root of the ball, and be careful not to hurt the root of the white stem and leaf when scraping the old root, where there are many root buds that are ready to grow.

(2) after clean treatment, according to the number and position of the seed buds, use a knife to cut longitudinally at the left and right side of the bulb. Do not hurt the seed buds, or the leaves will be cut with a knife.

(3) after all treatment, soak the seed ball with water, or flush the wound with a faucet to flush away the mucus from the wound. If the knife is clean, the color of the wound is not so dark and it will not be dark.

(4) it is appropriate to put the treated daffodils upright into the shallow basin of narcissus and submerge the bulb 1/3 with water. The bulb can be fixed with quartz sand and pebbles in the basin.

(5) Narcissus pots should be placed in sunny places during the day, move indoors at night, and pour out the water in the basin to control the excessive growth of leaves. Add water the next morning and be careful not to move the direction of the bulb. Just on the basin, daffodils can change the water once a day, and then every 2-3 days, after the formation of the bud, change the water once a week. Daffodils grow well at 10-15 degrees, bloom in about 45 days, and the flowering period can be maintained for more than a month.

2. Soil culture of daffodils.

The main results are as follows: (1) in mid-and late October, large bulbs were planted in small porous flowerpots with fertile sandy soil, half exposed, and some fine sand should be padded under the scales to facilitate drainage.

(2) put the flowerpot in the room with plenty of sunshine and suitable temperature. It is better to take 4 to 12 ℃, too low temperature is easy to produce frost injury, too high temperature plus insufficient light, easy to grow steeply, plant is weak, flowering time is short, reduce ornamental value.

(3) if the requirements of light and temperature are met in the management, the leaves will be enlarged and the flowers will be stout, so that the flowers can bloom large and fragrant for a long time. If you cultivate daffodils in soil, you can apply liquid fertilizer two or three times before flowering.
