This year's design takes tea as the main axis and launches the two-part reversal of Tadaocheng, "the record of Tea made in Taiwan," in order to take Taiwanese to understand Taiwan's century-old tea culture from Tadaocheng.

From overturning Daocheng to going deep into the tea industry

In 2015, Yuanyu designer tut-tut launched the "Flip Daocheng" board game, starting from the local culture, taking players to experience Taiwan from the game, making millions of fund-raising achievements.

When it comes to the most important industry in Daocheng, it is tea. When Taiwan tea entered the international market at the opening of trade in Hong Kong, many foreign businessmen came to Taiwan to set up foreign banks to engage in tea export. Tsai Hui-keung, founder of the design of Tsai Hui-keung, says that tea has always been closely related to the lives of ordinary people, coupled with the rise of Dadaocheng because of tea production. After an in-depth understanding, it is found that tea occupies one of the key points in the history of Taiwan.

Reviewing the design process of "Flip Daocheng", Cai Huiqiang said that after doing "Flip Daocheng", he had a stronger attempt for Taiwan-themed board games. After the original "Flip Daocheng" was completed, the theme would be extended to the banks of the Tanshui River. But there was too much content to present, so Kaguan decided to start with the development of new board games in the real estate industry.

Use board games to get to know the century-old history of tea and important figures

In order to develop and reverse the two-part Dadaocheng Tea Book made in Taiwan, in addition to searching for tea literature and visiting Dadaocheng, the design team has also cooperated with ASW Tea House, Yamasheng Lucky, and Dadaocheng Tea School to gain an in-depth understanding of tea history, culture and tea production process.

Tsai Hui-keung points out that "making Tea in Taiwan" is a tea-making game, in which ships go up the river against the current, carry out the crude tea made by the players, and incorporate the card design into tea packaging and tea-making characters in history. combine important tea history with the game.

In the interview, Cai Huiqiang said with a draft card that players can play Wei Jingshi, British businessman John Todd, and Yoshiro Shinai, the father of Taiwan black tea. And other important figures to understand the contribution of these figures to the development of tea in Taiwan. He says that many histories are not known to everyone. For example, when Yoshiro Shinai's son came to Taiwan, he learned that his father was the father of Taiwan's black tea, and that he even had a statue erected.

"without Todd's attempt, everything would be very difficult to happen," points out Tsai Hui-keung. John Todd is the one who is most impressed by him, because Todd came to Taiwan not to look for tea but for camphor. in the course of his inspection, Todd found that Taiwan was suitable for growing tea. In addition, at that time, the producing area of Chinese tea was far away from the port, and Taiwan's tea producing area was close to the port, which opened up an opportunity for international trade in tea.

In addition to passing on little-known history through board games, players should also know about the tea production process. When the player picks the tea from the tea tree, black tea, green tea and oolong tea can be made according to the differences in the production process.

Pointing to the game plate, Cai Huiqiang said that the game is relatively simple. Players have only a few things to do in the game, such as picking tea, making tea, completing tea, delivery, domestic sales, and so on. Each link has tasks to be completed. For example, the weather will affect the production of tea, and domestic tea can improve its tea-making skills, allowing players to experience the tea-making process and tea history within an hour.

Cai Huiqiang points out that this game is a relatively regular European-style board game, which allows players to interact with each other through game tasks, while knowledge-based content will be placed in rule books and knowledge transfer will be completed through reading. After the launch of "Tea Records made in Taiwan", we will bring this game to the German board game exhibition.
