Narcissus, also known as Chinese daffodils, is a variety of multi-flowered daffodils. It has been cultivated in China for more than a thousand years. It is a traditional ornamental flower and is one of the top ten famous flowers in China. So when will the daffodils bloom? How to prolong the florescence? How to grow up well? Details are as follows:

When do the daffodils bloom?

Natural breeding, it usually blossoms in winter, about January!

Daffodils are bulbous flowers planted in autumn, bloom in early spring and store nutrients, dormant in summer, and enjoy a warm and humid climate. Chinese daffodils need to be planted for 2-3 years to blossom.

It was cultivated from September to October in autumn, the leaves were withered and yellow in May of the following year, and entered into dormancy in June in the form of bulbs. During dormancy, bulbs continued to carry out physiological and biochemical activities. When propagated with lateral balls, the balls were dug after dormancy in the second year, and the balls blossomed in winter after storage.

The cultivation methods of daffodils include soil cultivation, sand cultivation and water cultivation. The requirement of cultivation technology is not high, as long as the temperature is kept at about 15 ℃, there is plenty of sunshine and frequent watering and changing water, and the culture can blossom for 25-30 days.

How to prolong the florescence of daffodils

Temperature control

Narcissus likes cold and is afraid of heat. The suitable temperature during the growing period is 8 ℃ to 12 ℃, and the requirement is even lower after flowering.

If the temperature is low, the florescence is long, otherwise it is short. The author has made a comparative observation that the florescence of water daffodils is one week at room temperature above 23 ℃, about 10 days at 15 ℃ to 20 ℃, and 15 days to 20 days at 8 ℃ to 12 ℃. Daffodils raised by water at home should be kept in a sunny, well-ventilated place away from heaters, stoves and other heaters during the growing period, and buds should be moved to indoor cool places to avoid direct sunlight and keep the temperature balanced. As long as there is a certain low temperature environment, the flowering period can be effectively prolonged.

Proper topdressing

Proper topdressing can also prolong the flowering period. Daffodils have a greater demand for nutrients after budding.

At this time, the nutrient left in the bulb is limited, so proper fertilization should be applied in the later stage of growth. Can start from the pregnant bud, every 7 to 10 days to the basin with a small amount of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (0.5 grams each time), or medical glucose injection (2 milliliters each time), until the flower fade. After topdressing, the plant grows healthily with large buds and many flowers, and the flowering period can be prolonged from 5 to 7 days. Adding 0.3 mg aspirin to the daffodil pot can also prolong the florescence and delay the wilting of the flower.

Matters needing attention in breeding daffodils

Daffodils like warm, humid climate, avoid hot and high temperature; like wet water, more hardy. Narcissus is a bulbous flower planted in autumn, which has the habit of growing in autumn and winter, flowering and storing nutrients in early spring, and dormant in summer. Flower bud differentiation was carried out at the growing point of the bulb during the dormant period.

Light, daffodils belong to short-day flowers, as long as there are 10 hours of light every day can develop normally. If the light is not enough, the leaves are easy to grow, and the flowering is few or not; if the light is too strong, it is also disadvantageous to its growth.

Temperature and daffodils have different requirements for temperature in different growth periods. It is cool in the early stage, hardy in the middle stage and warm in the later stage. It is most suitable when the temperature is 20-24 degrees and the air relative humidity is 70% ~ 80%.

The bulb should be enlarged. The optimum temperature for flower bud differentiation is 17-20 degrees, and the air relative humidity is 80%. When the temperature exceeds 25 degrees, flower bud differentiation will be inhibited and flowering will be affected.

Water, daffodils like water, like dampness, and need more water in the period of vigorous growth and development. The demand for water is relatively reduced in the mature period.

When cultivated in soil and open field, sandy loam with deep, loose, rich organic matter and strong water retention should be selected, and the soil pH can grow well in ph5.0~7.5.
