How to grow catmint?

Sandy loam or deep loam soil with sufficient sunshine and good ventilation and good drainage is preferred.

Sowing method: 1-3 seeds per hole, direct seeding in the open field. After sowing, the seeds are covered with vermiculite and germinate in 10-14 days at 18-22 ℃. After sowing, shade properly and avoid direct sunlight.

Note: Cat grass is not strict with climate, soil and other environmental conditions, and can be planted in all parts of North and South China. Love warm, humid climate. Seedlings can withstand low temperatures of about 0℃, and freeze damage will occur below-2℃. Avoid drought and ponding, avoid continuous cropping. The optimum temperature for seed germination is 15-20℃. Seed life is 1 year.

What does catmint do to cats?

About 50% of cats are interested in the smell of the grass and like to scratch, but this does not mean that cats must eat catmint to maintain health. In fact, catmint is a hallucinogenic plant, and some cats can cause temporary (5-15 minutes) behavioral changes after eating it, such as sneezing, chewing, rubbing, rolling, meowing, delirium, etc. Some cats will chase imaginary mice after eating catnip, and some will sit and stare blankly. These behaviors do not cause any harm, and catnip is not addictive. In short, catmint does not substantially help or harm cat health. There are examples of catmint working on tigers, jaguars, cheetahs and lynx. But it seems to have limited effect on lions.
