Lotus, also known as lotus and water hibiscus, etc., because of its beautiful appearance and high ornamental value, and the whole body is covered with treasures, not only lotus roots and lotus seeds can be eaten, but also their roots, lotus leaves and flowers can be used as medicine, so they are deeply loved by everyone. Planting economic benefits also significantly make many growers want to plant, so how to grow lotus? When will it blossom?

First, how to grow lotus?

1. Planting environment

The lotus is an aquatic plant, so it is generally planted in the pond, the water flow is slow and the water level is stable, the water quality of the lotus is not high, but it cannot be seriously polluted, and the bottom of the pond requires a deep water depth of 1-1.5 meters. In addition, the lotus is a positive plant, it is necessary to maintain more than 10 hours of light every day, and in order to avoid being swallowed by fish and shrimp, all the fish and shrimp in the pond should be removed before planting. And take protective measures to prevent fish from invading.

2. Sowing seeds

The shell of the lotus seed is relatively hard, and the shell must be destroyed before it can germinate smoothly. generally, you can use scissors to cut a small hole in the shell, and then soak the seed in clean water for 2 weeks to make it fully absorb water and sprout long leaves. When soaking seeds, you should pay attention to changing water every day so that the deterioration of water quality will not affect seed germination. When sowing, first empty the pool water and after a few days of exposure, make the underlying soil in a slightly dry state, and then bury the seeds to keep the light.

3. Fertilizer and water management

The water demand of lotus is the same in all stages, such as shallow water in the early stage, deep water in the middle stage and less water in the later stage, and the water level should be controlled within 1.5 meters. Rapid fertilization is necessary for the growth of lotus. Before planting, 3000 kg of organic fertilizer and an appropriate amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer are generally applied as base fertilizer. The principle of topdressing is light application at seedling stage, heavy application at flower bud formation stage and frequent application at flowering and fruiting stage. 30 kg phosphorus and potassium fertilizer and 10 kg nitrogen fertilizer are applied per mu at seedling stage, and the basic fertilizer at seedling stage is increased by 1-2 times according to plant growth status. In the flowering and fruiting period, topdressing is usually done every 20 days in order to improve the seed setting rate.

4. Field management

Attention should be paid to the changes of water quality and sediment when planting. Once the deterioration of water quality is found, it should be dealt with in time so as not to lead to the death of the lotus and affect the yield. In addition, weeds should be removed in time so as not to be harmful to the growth of the lotus. Herbicides should be sprayed once a month to inhibit the growth of weeds. In addition, aquatic plants such as algae and water moss should be removed in time, and ploughing should be carried out every half month when the lotus grows 3-5 vertical leaves. 3-4 times in a row until the rhizome fills the pond.

When does the lotus blossom?

The lotus usually blossoms in the midsummer season, flowering from June to September, and some lotus flowers are in full bloom in early June, with changes in color such as white, pink, crimson, lavender, yellow or intermediate color, but the flowering period will also change due to climate change in recent years. In addition, the general lotus blooms begin at about 3:00 in the morning. First, the outer petals are gradually relaxed and the top inner petals of the buds are loosened. It did not close until about 9:00 in the morning, and the mid-day flowering was also affected by the change of temperature. It began to bloom a little when the temperature rose to 21 ℃ after 8: 00 in the morning, increased gradually when it continued to rise to 24-26 ℃, and reached the peak of flowering on the same day when the temperature rose to 28-30 ℃.

Summary: the above is about the lotus planting methods and months of flowering related introduction, growers can refer to the above planting methods to plant and observe the flowering time, hoping to help friends in need!
