We all know an idiom, a flash in the pan, which actually means that the flowering period of epiphyllum is very short and wither quickly, but the beauty of epiphyllum is obvious to all, so many people who love flowers and plants originally intend to raise a pot of epiphyllum. Here are the cultivation methods of epiphyllum and the appreciation of epiphyllum pictures.

[introduction to epiphyllum]

Epiphyllum is a kind of epiphyte of cactus family and epiphyllum. It is shrubby main stem cylindrical, woody. Epiphyllum is native to Mexico and its flowers are funnel-shaped and fragrant. Blossoms usually take place on summer nights. Epiphyllum likes to live in a warm, humid, semi-cool environment. The soil in which it grows is very rich in decay. Epiphyllum should not be exposed to the sun, not resistant to cold, and the requirement for soil is to have good drainage. The suitable temperature for epiphyllum growth is 20 Mel 25 degrees Celsius, and the winter growth temperature should not be lower than 0 degrees Celsius. Epiphyllum flowers will wither after opening for about 5 hours, so there is a saying that "epiphyllum flowers are short-lived".

[culture method of epiphyllum]

1. Soil: epiphyllum culture does not have high requirements for soil. Pot cultivation soil can choose the mixture of 2 parts of peat soil, 1 part of coarse sand and 1 part of slag, and the basin soil should not be too wet.

2. Sunshine: epiphyllum likes semi-shade, and it is cultivated in the outdoor half-shade in spring and autumn to prevent direct sunlight. In summer, it is appropriate to put a place with bright indoor light and good ventilation, and it can also be placed on the north balcony or in the shade of big trees, but to avoid strong light exposure, otherwise it is very easy to cause abnormal stems to turn yellow and reduce ornamental value.

3. Temperature: epiphyllum likes a warm, humid and semi-overcast environment, so pay attention to the temperature. Between March and September, it should be in the environment of 13 ℃, while from September to December, it should be kept at 12-18 ℃. From December to March of the following year, epiphyllum should be kept at a temperature of 10-16 ℃, especially in winter. Potted plants in the north can generally be moved indoors in the first and middle of October to survive the winter. Put it in the sunny place during the overwintering, keep the room temperature at about 10 ℃, and control the watering to keep the basin soil from being too dry.

4. Watering: the watering of epiphyllum in spring and autumn should be dry and wet, and the watering in summer should be more appropriate, but there should be no stagnant water in the basin, otherwise the roots will rot easily. In the dry and hot season, clear water is sprayed on the plant once every morning and evening to increase air humidity to facilitate growth and flowering.

5. Fertilization: epiphyllum prefers fertilizer and has more requirements for fertilizer. It is better to use rotten organic fertilizer, plus a small amount of bone meal or superphosphate. During the growth period, thin cake fertilizer and water is applied about once every half a month. If a small amount of rice vinegar or ferrous sulfate can be added to the liquid fertilizer, it will grow better. If 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate is applied 1-2 times after budding, the flower will be big and colorful. Immediately after the flower fade, liquid fertilizer is applied for 1 or 2 times, which is beneficial to blossom in the coming year.

Epiphyllum is so beautiful that those who like it will quickly learn the breeding method of epiphyllum and go back to raise a pot of epiphyllum.
