After 11 generations of growth and laying performance evaluation, a new black-bone chicken breed "black velvet black-bone chicken" was bred on March 9, 107, which was submitted to the Animal Husbandry Department of the Council of Agriculture for breed registration and approval on April 29, 108.

Liu Xiaolong explained that the "black feather black-bone chicken" introduced at the beginning could produce about 70 black-bone eggs on average, and after 11 generations of breeding, the egg production of the new breed "black velvet black-bone chicken" increased to about 102 black-bone eggs each. compared with the average production of 40 to 44 black-bone chickens in Taiwan, the egg production of the new breed of black-bone chickens is significantly higher. Although black bone eggs are small, their lecithin is about 23% higher than brown shell eggs on the market and has high nutritional value.

Both meat and egg rooster can be used as broiler.

Liu Xiaolong stressed that usually only female chicks are selected for raising in egg farms, and most male chicks are destroyed, but black velvet black bone chickens can also be used as broilers in addition to laying eggs, so that when selecting the sex of chicks in laying hens, male black velvet black bone chicks can be retained as broilers, thus reducing the number of male chicks that are humanely destroyed.

As a broiler, the carcass of black velvet black-bone chicken is light gray and lighter than that of native black-bone chicken, which is expected to increase public acceptance of black-bone chicken. Liu Xiaolong mentioned that although the new black-bone chicken weighs only about 1.5 kilograms at 20 weeks and is smaller than the native black-bone chicken, the smaller carcass can better meet the needs of small families and reduce the problem of chicken preservation.

Because of the new chicken breeds, the price of the new chicken breeds should be evaluated at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and after the technology transfer price is determined, the guidance rules will be drawn up by the Research and Management Committee of the Animal testing Institute, and finally, according to the advice of the Animal Husbandry Department, the intellectual Review Committee of the Council of Agriculture will assess the economic benefits of the new chicken species to chicken farmers. Liu Xiaolong said that the review operation is still under way, and the review process can be completed and technology transfer can be opened by the end of the year at the earliest.
