Ash is a kind of tree species that can be propagated by cutting and sowing, but the germination rate of sowing is slightly lower, so we have to deal with the seeds before sowing, so let's take a look at it.

Seed treatment technology of ash tree

Seed collection: ash blossoms from April to May and matures from September to October. The excellent plants with strong growth and no diseases and insect pests were selected and picked when the Samara changed from green to yellowish brown and the kernels were hard. If the seeds do not fall after maturity, you can cut off the fruit branches, dry the wings, remove sundries, put the seeds in a container and store them in a sterilized, low-temperature, dry and ventilated room.

Low temperature germination: select high topography, good drainage, leeward shady place to dig trenches, ditch depth in principle below permafrost, groundwater level above, ditch width 80 cm, ditch length depends on the number of seeds. The ratio of white wax seeds to wet sand is 1 ∶ 2: 3. Spread a layer of wet sand 10 cm thick at the bottom of the ditch, then mix the seeds with wet sand and put them into the ditch. The thickness of planting sand is 50~70cm, 10 cm off the ground and covered with wet sand, and then covered with soil to make the top take the shape of roof ridge. Put a handful of straw every 0.7 ~ 1m to facilitate ventilation, and the general treatment time is 60 ~ 80d.

High temperature germination: seeds without low temperature stratification in winter can be soaked in warm water of 40 ℃, then soaked for 2 days after natural cooling, and changed water once a day. The seeds were mixed with 3 times wet sand and put on warm Kang to promote germination. The temperature should be kept at 20-25 ℃, turn every day, keep moist, about 20 days, the sum of exposed radicle and split mouth seeds reach 30% of the total seeds can be sown.

Seed sowing technique of ash tree

Soil: select the plot with rich soil nutrients, high organic matter content, loose structure, good air permeability, pH value of 7.5-8.0, and the saline-alkali content is less than 0.1%. The seedling land requires flat terrain, good drainage and irrigation conditions and less weeds in the field. Heavy sandy loam and heavy clayey soil should be improved, and the seedling raising effect of light sandy loam is good.

Sowing: spring sowing should be early, usually from late February to early March. Ditching strip sowing, the seed amount per 667m2 is 3~4kg, the depth is 4cm, the depth should be uniform, should be with trenching, sowing, with soil cover, cover soil thickness 2~3cm. In order to make the soil close to each other, the soil was suppressed after covering the soil.

Seedling maintenance of ash tree

Irrigation: in the process of seedling growth, strengthening the tending and management of seedlings is the key to the cultivation of strong seedlings. According to the different growth periods of fast-growing white wax, the irrigation time and quantity should be determined reasonably. In the seed germination period, the bed should always be moist, irrigation should be a small number of times; after the seedlings come out, the cotyledons fully expand, enter the vigorous growth period, irrigation amount should be more, times should be less, irrigation once every 2 to 3 days, each time should be thoroughly irrigated. Irrigation should be carried out in the morning and evening. Drainage should be carried out in time when it is rainy in autumn.

Fertilization: seedling fertilization should be based on base fertilizer, but its nutrition may not meet the needs of seedling growth. In order to make seedlings grow fast and sturdy, chemical fertilizer should be applied in the peak period of seedling growth.

Weeding: in line with the principle of "removing early, removing small, except", weeds should be pulled out in time, and weeding should be carried out after rain or irrigation. Fast-growing white wax should loosen the soil when it enters the peak growth period, which should be shallow in the initial stage and deeper in the later stage, so as not to hurt the roots of seedlings. During the hardening period of white wax, loosening soil and weeding should be stopped in order to promote the Lignification of seedlings.

Finally, it should be noted that in the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests of white wax seedlings, we should start with winter ploughing, soil disinfection, selection of improved varieties, seed disinfection, reasonable fertilization, timely early sowing and management to prevent the occurrence of diseases and insect pests.
