Cedar seeds are relatively small, when selecting, we must carefully screen out the empty seeds, and then sow them. Let's learn some knowledge about this side.

Seed sowing technique of Cedar

Seed treatment: cedar seeds are generally about 6000-8000 seeds / 1 kg, there are more empty seeds, so it is necessary to select seeds to remove the empty seeds. The seeds should be soaked and germinated before sowing, and the best effect is to soak the seeds in cold water for 96 hours; they can also be soaked in warm water at 45-50 °C for 24 hours, sterilized with 0.1% potassium permanganate for 30 minutes, and then rinsed with clean water to dry and sow the seeds, never sowing seeds with wet.

Sowing method: sowing time is generally carried out before the Spring Equinox, sooner rather than later, strip sowing is better, row spacing 10-15 cm, plant spacing 4-5 cm; seeds should be placed on the sowing ditch, be sure to put the big end of the seeds upward, sowing 15-20 kg per mu, and cover 1-2 cm thick with yellow soil or charred mud ash after sowing. And cover it with a thin layer of straw and sprinkle water on it to keep the bed moist. It can germinate after about 3-5 days, and the seedlings emerge one after another in about half a month. The emergence time lasts for more than 1 month, and the general germination rate can reach 90%.

Seedling management: in order to prevent the newly unearthed seedlings from being lost by rain, and to take good care of the temperature in the shed, ventilation should be carried out when the temperature in the shed is kept at 15-20 °C. when the external temperature is above 15 °C, the film can be opened during the day and covered at night. When more than 70% of the seedlings emerge, remove the straw in batches, build a frame in time, and cover the sunshade net or Reed curtain for shading. There are not many diseases and insect pests in cedar, especially the fatal diseases and insect pests are more rare. The main purpose of preventing aphids in spring is to prevent aphids, which is very common in the Yangtze River valley and eats the tender head of cedar, resulting in the loss of top growth advantage of cedar trunk. It is very simple to prevent this kind of insect, and it can be solved by spraying phosphorus-containing insecticides in time when there are signs of insect pests.

The characteristics of seeding seedlings are as follows: the branches are dense and layered; the color is closer to pink frost than the cuttings; the growth is fast and the trunk is straight and strong.

Matters needing attention in planting cedar

1. Cedar is a shallow-rooted plant, so you can't dig the pit too deep when planting. Deep planting is against the normal growth law of cedar. The root system of cedar grows best and has the highest activity only near the surface of the soil.

two。 The yellowing of cedar leaves after transplanting is generally due to iron deficiency, and foliar fertilization is generally used. in areas where pine leaves are yellowed and iron deficiency is serious, iron fertilizer must be applied in combination with soil. The commonly used iron fertilizers are ferrous sulfate, ammonium ferrous sulfate, ammonium ferrous sulfate and synthetic complex iron such as iron citrate, EDTA-Fe and EDDHA-Fe. In most cases, the effect of soil application is not obvious, so iron fertilizer can be mixed with organic fertilizer.

3. Cedar is afraid of water, not of drought. Cedar's fear of water is shown in that even if it encounters stagnant water once, it will cause lifelong damage to the cedar. Since then, its growth rate has greatly decreased, and its color has become yellow. in serious cases, a small amount of pine needles will fall off, and cedar will even die soon. For nursery planting, more deep trenches must be dug in the fields to ensure that the fields are not watery or stagnant during the rainy season; for engineering planting cedars, cedars must be planted higher than the road surface and the surface of the green island. Make sure there is no stagnant water around.

4. In early spring, the aboveground temperature is high, the underground temperature is low, and the aboveground begins to grow. Due to the influence of temperature, the underground part delays the absorption of water and nutrients from the soil, resulting in a lack of nutrients. Plants transfer and regulate the internal environment through their own signals. The chlorophyll in the decomposed leaves supplies nutrients to the growth center. That is, the nutrients for plant growth come from the leaves rather than the roots. The leaves lose chlorophyll and retain lutein and tear carotene, so they are yellow. If the external environment is not improved, the phenomenon of strip may occur.

In addition to the knowledge introduced above, in the process of planting cedar, we also need to prune and take care of it at the right time, and in addition to planting cedar by sowing, it can also be propagated by grafting and cutting.
