Last Updated: 2024/09/19, Recently, some areas of Kaohsiung and Pingtung began to harvest rice, but it is reported that because rice was abundant last year and the harvest reached a new high, it is still impossible to digest it, so the price offered by grain merchants is less than 9 yuan per unit, and many farmers have responded to local public opinion representatives to plant rice roots.

Recently, rice harvesting began in some areas of Kaohsiung and Pingtung. However, it is said that because rice was abundant last year, the harvest volume reached a record high and still cannot be digested. Therefore, the price of wet rice quoted by grain merchants is less than 9 yuan per catty. Many farmers have already complained to local public opinion representatives that rice planting is simply not enough to cover the price of rice. Huang Chao-hsing, head of the Grain Storage and Transportation Group of the Council of Agriculture, suggested that farmers should not rush to make a move now.

According to the statistics of the Committee of Agriculture, the total area of rice cultivation in the first and second phases in recent years is about 270,000 hectares. Taking last year as an example, the total area of rice cultivation in the first and second phases is about 110,000 hectares. If you want to pay public grain, farmers need to declare to the agricultural association or local township district office. If farmers do not declare, they cannot pay public grain or participate in direct payment for rice cultivation.

Cai Jingfeng, director-general of the Agricultural Association of Daliao District in Kaohsiung City, said that the price of wet grain in Daliao District on the 29th was 8.5 yuan per catty, much lower than last year's price. Grain merchants were originally scheduled to buy rice on May 10 this year. Unexpectedly, in warm winter, rice grew rapidly. Even some fields began to harvest on April 23. Some granaries were too late to be emptied. Grain merchants could not digest it. In addition, last year's first and second harvests were all the reasons for the low price.

Cai Jingfeng said that in recent years, labor, fertilizer, pesticides and other costs have been rising, so far food prices are not good, many rice farmers have reported that they have lost their money, and many people have reported related problems to local public opinion representatives. He has also contacted large grain merchants in the south, hoping to open the market earlier and purchase rice from farmers to stabilize food prices.

Yao Zhiwang, director of the Southern Division of the Agriculture and Food Administration, said that at present, rice has been harvested for six consecutive years in some areas. The purchase price of wet grain is 8.5 yuan per catty on 29 days. The reasons for the low price include last year's bumper harvest. Up to now, some grain merchants still have grain reserves that have not been sold, resulting in relatively weak buying gas, plus factors such as warm winter this year. He also urged farmers not to "green harvest"(early harvest of immature rice) affect the overall quality of rice, in order to stabilize prices.

A few days ago, the Council of Agriculture proposed a policy of greatly increasing the amount of public grain purchased. Zhuang Laoda, deputy director of the Agriculture and Food Administration, said that as long as farmers plant rice on legal land, declare rice cultivation and plant announced varieties, they do not have to worry about the low price offered by the outside world. If they buy surplus grain at 21.6 yuan per kilogram, they will be converted into wet grain with humidity of 28% to 30%, which is about 950 to 960 yuan per 100 kilograms.
