Firecrackers prefer a warm environment, but the light should not be too strong, although it will not explode, but if the light is too strong, it may cause a loss of moisture and make those small firecrackers wilt.

I. morphological characteristics of firecrackers

Firecrackers are native to Central America. Perennial evergreen herb, about 1 m tall, slender stems and branches green, longitudinally angled, with many branches, branches whorled at nodes. Leaflets opposite or whorled, with the exception of a few oval leaves, most of the leaves are reduced to small scales. Paniculate Cymes, calyx light green, Corolla long tube-shaped, red, apex inconspicuously two-lipped, upper lip 2-lobed, lower lip 3-lobed, flowering from May to August.

II. Garden uses of firecrackers

The bright red flowers of the firecrackers bloom on the slender branches and look like firecrackers that are ignited one by one, giving people a sense of joy and enthusiasm. Can be used as potted decoration balcony, courtyard, indoor, can also be used as a hanging basin planting, hanging in the corridor, window and other places to watch. In areas with a warmer climate, it can also be planted in flower beds, rockery, rocks and other places.

3. Growth habits of firecrackers

Like warm and hot, not cold-resistant, require good drainage, loose and fertile soil. The lowest overwintering temperature of greenhouse cultivation is 12 ℃.

IV. matters needing attention in firecracker culture

1. Large-scale deep tile pots should be selected for planting. Because the firecrackers grow rapidly and have luxuriant branches and leaves, the best culture soil is mountain soil. Where there is no mountain soil, it can be mainly made of rotten leaf soil or peat soil, plus some compost soil and a small amount of bone powder.

2. It is necessary to water and fertilize reasonably. Firecrackers like the soil to be moist, so it is appropriate to keep the basin soil moist during the growing season. In the dry season and hot summer, it is also necessary to spray water on the branches and leaves 2 or 3 times a day and sprinkle water on the ground around the flowerpot to improve the air humidity. Autumn enters the flower bud differentiation period, watering should be less, in order to keep the potted soil slightly moist. Thin pancake fertilizer and water is applied about every half a month during the peak growing season. After autumn, phosphate fertilizer should be the main fertilizer, and compound fertilizer can also be applied.

3. Get on the shelves in time. Because the firecrackers have the characteristic of climbing and the plants grow very fast, they need to be put on the shelves in time. If cultivated on the balcony, thick iron wire and thicker bamboo poles can be used to form a certain form of frame, and then the stems and vines can be pulled to the flower rack and evenly distributed. When the flowers bloom, the bright flowers are hung all over the shelves and are loved by people. Firecrackers can not stand the cold, the northern areas need to enter the house to survive the winter.

4. In winter, the soil is transplanted in the middle of the grassland or in front of the gate and supported by bamboo to prevent lodging. This species depends on tendrils fixed growth, do not turn the vine during the growth, break the tendrils, otherwise it will affect the absorption of water and nutrients, resulting in poor flowering or even no flowering.

5. Learn to adjust the plant shape. Firecrackers are perennial evergreen climbing vines with tendrils that can climb upward with the help of others. In family training, in order to improve the ornamental effect, large and deep flowerpots can be selected when the seedlings grow to a certain height. When the seedlings grow to a certain height, build a flower rack in the pot, tie the stems to the flower rack, and pay attention to uniform distribution and maintenance on the sunny balcony. It can also be planted in a large basin and set up a flower rack on the balcony to grow upward. When the branches grow to a certain height on the attached objects, they need to hit the top to promote the sprouting of new branches to facilitate more flowering. The branches that have already flowered will not blossom in the coming year, but the newly growing branches should be pregnant with buds, so some old branches and weak branches should be cut off in time so as not to consume nutrients and affect flowering the next year.

6. Firecrackers are not cold-resistant and need to be moved indoors in winter in the north. During the overwintering period, the room should be kept in sunny places, watering should be controlled, fertilization should be stopped and room temperature should be kept above 10 ℃. Generally speaking, the room temperature needs to be raised gradually in the middle and late December, and appropriate watering and fertilization are needed at the same time, so that the buds can blossom from February to March.

The flower pattern of firecrackers has a unique appearance, so it also has a unique ornamental value. Breeding firecrackers at home will bring a festive atmosphere of celebrating festivals every day to home life, which is conducive to people's physical and mental health.
