Sulfur chrysanthemum (scientific name: Cosmos sulphureus), also known as Huang Qiuying, yellow Persian chrysanthemum, yellow Persian chrysanthemum, sulfur chrysanthemum, yellow hibiscus, native to Mexico, annual herb, strong sex, easy to cultivate. Like plenty of sunshine, not resistant to cold. Much branched, leaves are opposite bipinnately compound leaves, deeply parted, lobes lanceolate, mucronate, leaf margin rough, leaves wider than Persian chrysanthemum. The flower is ligulate, single and double, 3-5 cm in diameter, mostly yellow, golden, orange, red, achene 1.8-2.5 cm long, brown, hard, rough hairy, with a slender beak at the top. The florescence of spring sowing is from June to August, and that of summer sowing is from September to October.
2. How to plant chrysanthemum seeds
The propagation of sulfur chrysanthemum is often used by sowing and cutting propagation. Attention should be paid to seedlings after sowing. It takes 7-21 days for sowing, propagation and germination. The germination is fast and neat. The optimum temperature for growth is 24 ℃. It will blossom about 2 months after germination.
Sulfur chrysanthemum cuttings are propagated with twigs as cuttings in early summer and can take root 15-20 days after insertion. When the seedlings have 4-5 true leaves, they are heart-picked and transplanted or potted. Fertilization is applied once a month during the growing period, but it should not be excessive, otherwise the branches and leaves will grow and affect flowering. After the plant grows tall, set up a pillar to prevent lodging. The seeds mature one after another and fall off easily, so they need to be harvested in time.
