Does it only take a few minutes to implant teeth?

Last Updated: 2024/11/09, We already know that implant teeth need to grow from the "root" (that is, the implant) to the final "growth" of the tooth (to complete the crown restoration).

We already know that it takes about 3-6 months for the implant to grow from the "root" (that is, the implant) to the final "growth" of the tooth (to complete the crown restoration). How long does it take to perform the implant?

Implant surgery is said to be an operation, but in fact, like tooth extraction, it is a minor surgery in an outpatient clinic, but since we call it "surgery", we have to follow the procedure of the operation. as a result, there will be aseptic procedures such as "disinfection", "toweling" and "aseptic hand washing".

Why bother so much? Our oral cavity is a bacterial environment, in which there are a large number of fungi and bacteria, when the bacteria in the oral cavity are controlled under a certain number, it is normal. But our surgery will leave some trauma, there will also be wounds, in order to prevent them from being infected, to prevent these fungi and bacteria from affecting the combination of implants and bones, and to prevent them from entering the bloodstream, this requires aseptic operation before the implantation and at the same time as the operation.

On the other hand, aseptic operation takes time, such as disinfection of the surgical area and towel laying (to prevent contamination), which will take about 7 or 8 minutes. If these aseptic operations are not carried out, it may cause postoperative infection and other adverse symptoms.

What about implant surgery? If it is only a simple implant operation, it can be completed in a short time. A skilled physician can indeed perform a dental implant in about 10 minutes. However, everyone's situation may not be the same, there are many different situations. For example, in the case of bone tissue in the area of missing teeth, there are also cases of soft tissue (that is, gums) in the area of missing teeth, and even in the case of adjacent teeth and occlusal teeth.

If your bones are not in good condition, you may need to do something other than implants-"bone mending" (to guide bone regeneration); if your gums are not in good condition, then you also need to treat your gums after surgery (soft tissue shaping). These extra procedures can be even more time-consuming than dental implants.

But please don't worry, don't rush the doctor, the doctor will try to create favorable conditions for you, that is, I hope you can be more patient. Depending on the specific bone defect, this operation will take about 20-60 minutes.

Therefore, how long the implant surgery takes is not a matter of special concern, but the standardization of the operation and the success and long-term use of the implant.
