The wide-body golden leech is the largest (about 6-12 cm long, slightly spindle-shaped, flat and fat, the back is usually turquoise, with 5 black mixed circular stripes). Therefore, the wide-body golden leech is generally the main species in artificial culture.

First, harvest. Wide-body golden leeches can be harvested twice a year. The first time can be arranged to fish out and sell the leeches that have been bred for two seasons in mid-and late June, and the second time in mid-and late September to catch some of the larger leeches released in early spring, and the immature leeches should be kept for fishing in the second year. When fishing, drain part of the water first, and then pick it up with a net; it can also be fished out with a small fishing stock at night. Pay attention to clearing the pool after all fishing.

Second, processing. The quality of dried leech is the key factor affecting its selling price. The finished product is a natural flat spindle, the back is slightly raised, the ventral surface is flat, brittle and easy to break, and the cross section is colloidal and glossy. The commonly used processing methods are: ⑴ drying method: the leeches are strung together with thin thread or wire, suspended in the sun and directly exposed to dry; ⑵ method: the high liquor is poured into a container to drown the leeches, then covered and sealed for 30 minutes, removed and washed with clean water to dry ⑶ water scalding method: put the leeches into containers, pour in boiling water until they are 2-3 fingers deep, blanch them for about 20 minutes, remove and wash them after death, and dry them in a clean place; ⑷ edible alkali method: place leeches in utensils, sprinkle them with edible alkali powder, rub them with both hands, until the leeches gradually shrink and die, and finally rinse them with water. ⑸ lime method: burying leeches in lime powder for 20 minutes, sifting, drying or drying; ⑹ plant ash method: burying leeches in firewood ash extinguished after combustion, taking out 30 minutes to remove firewood ash; ⑺ talc method: placing talc powder in a pot, heating medium heat to turn to a flexible state, putting in leeches and stir-frying until puffed out of the pan; ⑻ drying method: if conditions permit, low temperature (70 ℃) drying technology can be used. ⑼ cut tobacco method: bury the leeches in the cut tobacco. After about half an hour, the leeches die, wash and dry.

Third, storage. Unsold dried leeches should be stored in a dry place to prevent moths.
