Balsam pear is usually raised in the protected field during the period from late March to early April. The seeds are selected first, soaked in warm water for 24 hours, germinated for 2 to 3 days under the condition of 30 ℃, and can be sowed when the seeds show their radicles.

After sowing, when balsam pear seedlings grow to 4 or 6 true leaves, balsam pear can be planted from late April to early May. Balsam pear likes fertilizer. Before planting, about 1300 kg of rotten pig manure or cow manure per mu is applied. Ploughing the land to flatten it, the border is about 150cm wide, and each border is planted in 2 rows. Open field planting should be carried out in sunny and warm weather, watering thoroughly after planting, and setting up a frame after slow seedling.

Like the cucumber frame, balsam pear should keep the soil moist after planting and apply nitrogen fertilizer lightly. large water and large fertilizer is needed during the fruiting period, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, which is usually fertilized once every 5-7 days, and calcium superphosphate is increased 1-2 times after the full fruiting period. in order to give full play to the fruit advantage of the main vine, balsam pear can be harvested 2 weeks after flowering.

Greenhouse cultivation generally raises seedlings in mid-late February and colonized in mid-late March. The management method in the field is the same as that in open field cultivation, but it should be noted that the side branches are too dense and need to be removed in order to be conducive to light transmission, ventilation should be paid attention to in summer to control diseases and insect pests.
