Peat soil refers to the soil in which a large number of insufficiently decomposed plant residues accumulate and form a peat layer in some river-lake sedimentary low plains and intermountain valleys due to long-term stagnant water and dense aquatic vegetation. Peatlands can be divided into moss peatlands and swamp peatlands. The main difference between these two types of peatlands lies in the different conditions for the formation of peatlands.

Peat is a kind of excellent soil for potted flowers. It has the advantages of loose soil, light texture, good air permeability and water permeability, strong ability to retain water and fertilizer, and no disease spores and eggs.

Peat can be used alone in potted plants or in conjunction with perlite, vermiculite, river sand, coconut bran, garden soil and so on. At present, the main ingredient of the so-called flower culture soil on the market is peat.
