Notes on planting-Sunflower

1. Select high-quality raw melon seeds and soak them in clean water for half a day. Select flowerpots, point holes, and sow seeds. The size of the flowerpot determines the size of sunflowers in the future. It is enough to plant one plant in a flowerpot with 10cm diameter and high 10cm. Larger flowerpots, such as 15cm diameter, can grow 2-3 plants. Of course, if the fertilizer and water are good, one plant will grow better. We choose the sowing depth is generally 1-2cm, the soil is relatively soft, the gap is larger, in order to prevent the seeds from being blown dry, it is better to go deeper, 2cm is more appropriate.

2. It sprouted in about 3-5 days. Sunflowers are still very easy to feed, put in the sunny place, pay attention to fertilization and watering.

From sowing to budding, it is more drought-resistant and does not need much water, which is only 1.9% of the total water demand. On the other hand, proper drought is beneficial to root growth and enhance drought resistance. The peak of water demand is from budding to flowering, which accounts for about 43% of the total water demand. The water shortage in this period has a great impact on the yield. There is also more water demand from flowering to maturity, accounting for about 38% of the total water. If there is not enough water, it will not only affect the yield, but also reduce the oil content.

3. When planting sunflowers on the balcony, the main problem is pollination, which can be in the form of artificial pollination, using only a cotton swab. Only when fully pollinated can more melon seeds be produced.
