Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Sichuan has become the third largest tobacco production base in China.

This summer, the once-deserted hills of Sihe Village, Lake Township, Xide County, Liangshan Prefecture were covered with white greenhouses. In the greenhouse, the green tobacco seedlings grow happily_The latest news from the provincial tobacco monopoly bureau, so far, the province's 134.71 million mu of tobacco planting has been completed, the planting area increased by more than 150,000 mu compared with last year, a new high in recent years.

Last year, Sichuan monopolized half of the country's 2 million new loads of tobacco leaf purchase plan, which also made Sichuan surpass Fujian, Hunan and other provinces at one stroke and become the third largest tobacco leaf production base in China after Yunnan and Guizhou. This year, Sichuan received a quarter of the country's new 1 million acquisition plan. It is reported that the new tobacco leaves are mainly planted in Liangshan Prefecture Yanyuan County, Xide County and Panzhihua Miyi County and other four new development tobacco areas.

In addition to a significant increase in acreage and acquisition plans, a range of new technologies are also being widely used. In Luzhou, a technology called flue-cured tobacco sand seedling replaced the traditional peat seedling technology, thus reducing the dependence and utilization of non-renewable resources-peat; in Liangshan, Panzhihua and Luzhou, floating seedling which is conducive to improving the seedling rate and transplanting survival rate of tobacco seedlings has been comprehensively promoted; in Panzhihua Miyi County, the history of relying solely on coal for flue-cured tobacco will end, and the concentrated use of solar energy, methane, coal, straw and electricity will replace it.

Sichuan, which is committed to promoting "two tobaccos and strong provinces", has both quantity and quality of tobacco planting. From 1998 to 2008, the proportion of high-grade tobacco in Sichuan increased from 3.03% to 56.1%, and this year, this figure will remain at about 50%. At the same time, the variety structure of tobacco leaves is also changing. The planting area of Yunyan 85, which once occupied half of the country, has been greatly reduced, and the planting proportion of new varieties such as Hongda has been significantly increased. Relevant parties said that the adjustment will also help tobacco farmers increase their income. According to estimates, tobacco farmers 'income is expected to increase to about 3 billion yuan this year, an increase of about 500 million yuan over last year.

This year will also be a year of rapid development of modern tobacco agriculture. Figures show that in the past four years, the province has invested 2.022 billion yuan in infrastructure construction for tobacco leaf production. This year, the investment will reach 1.7 billion yuan. In addition to continuing to give high subsidies to tobacco farmers to purchase machinery and equipment, infrastructure construction such as tobacco water supporting facilities and tractor roads is still the focus, among which, only more than 20,000 new baking houses will be built, with an investment of more than 500 million yuan. These barns are used to grow mushrooms during idle time.
