Yesterday, the reporter learned from the Fujian Flower Association that under the adverse impact of the financial crisis, the total sales of the Fujian flower industry has continued to grow steadily for seven consecutive years.

According to a survey conducted by the Provincial Forestry Department and the Provincial Flower Association, in 2008, the total area of flower cultivation in the province was 19300 hectares, with sales totaling 4.331 billion yuan, exports totaling US $39.127 million and imports totaling US $5.353 million, up 5.9 percent, 8.6 percent, 23.0 percent and 210.7 percent respectively over the previous year. The total amount of flower sales and annual mu sales in the province have been rising steadily year by year for 7 consecutive years.

The crisis caused three major shocks.

However, in the case of good overall development, affected by the financial crisis, some enterprises withdrew from the flower industry. In 2008, there were 52 flower markets in the province, a decrease of 3 compared with the previous year; 1566 flower enterprises in the province, a decrease of 16 compared with the previous year; and a total of 27875 specialized flower households in the province, a decrease of 148 compared with the previous year.

Chai, president of Fujian Flower Association, told the reporter that the association had conducted a special survey on the impact of the international financial crisis on Fujian's flower industry. The results show that the financial crisis has had a certain impact on Fujian's flower industry. The main performance is as follows: first, the group purchase of flowers has decreased, mainly because some enterprises have reduced this part of expenditure due to the economic downturn. Second, the number of flowers and seedlings purchased by projects has decreased, mainly due to the lack of funds in the real estate industry, which has reduced the cost of greening; third, there has been a sharp drop in flower orders exported to Europe, the United States, Japan and other places, or affected by the devaluation of local currencies, resulting in unprofitable exports.

Characteristic flowers become the "mainstay"

The reporter learned that the flower industry in Fujian Province was able to rise against the trend in the financial crisis, and the characteristic flowers produced in Fujian played a great role in promoting it. For example, the planting area of bonsai plants in Fuzhou has reached more than 6000 mu, with an output of nearly 2 million pots, with an output value of 40 to 50 million yuan last year. Nanjing orchids are of high quality and are very popular in the market, with sales of about 100 million yuan the year before last. Last year, orders in the northern part of the country increased greatly, and sales increased sharply. The quality of daffodils in Zhangzhou is dominant. Last year, more than 30 million daffodils were produced, with sales reaching 100 million yuan. Some of them were carved by art and sold by mail. The price can be increased nearly 10 times, with a total output value of nearly 400 million yuan.

However, some experts pointed out that there are still some problems in the development of the flower industry in Fujian Province: first, there are not many large-scale flower enterprises. Compared with the whole country, Fujian flower industry started earlier and has a larger number, but most of them are small family-type and cooperative enterprises. low investment, low output, low quality, it is difficult to form a competitive advantage Second, the investment in scientific and technological innovation is limited, the flower industry is an industry with high input, high output and high risk, and new varieties and technologies are the core competitiveness of the flower industry, but the investment of many flower enterprises is limited, which affects the development of the industry to a certain extent. third, the awareness of brand and variety protection is not enough. According to statistics, there are three or four thousand kinds of cultivated flower resources in Fujian Province. However, almost all of the common varieties such as carnations, roses, lilies and chrysanthemums on the market are imported from abroad. Once exported, a variety use fee must be paid, which accounts for at least 25% of the output value. In fact, these varieties are available in Fujian Province, but no one to develop it or do not pay attention to protection after development, leading to the current passive situation.

President Chai also pointed out that Fujian has a long history of planting and cultivating flowers, rich in flower resources, unique climate and rich labor force in the flower industry. For example, there are 116900 flower practitioners in the province in 2008, including 7163 professional and technical personnel, which plays an extremely key role in the development of the flower industry in Fujian Province. If flower enterprises can improve labor productivity, make use of mature and scientific production technology and establish their own brand, it will promote the rapid development of the flower industry in the province.

It is also reported that the establishment of the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait will bring great opportunities for the development of Fujian's flower industry. For example, we should make use of the advantages of Fujian and Taiwan to establish an agricultural science and technology R & D and promotion platform in line with international standards, strengthen agricultural scientific and technological cooperation with Taiwan, break through the technical barriers to international trade in flowers, comprehensively raise the level of the flower industry in Fujian Province, and reduce planting costs. drive the province's flower farmers to increase production and income, and speed up industrial upgrading.
