Raising ducks is generally inseparable from rivers and ditches and ponds and swamps, but the reporter learned from the scientific and technological achievements promotion meeting held yesterday that Nanjing will build a high-quality high-bed duck-raising demonstration base in Pukou, raising ducks on a net bed more than one meter high.

Why keep ducks on a net bed? Can ducks raised in the air be delicious? With curiosity, the reporter interviewed du Wenxing, a science and technology commissioner and professor of Nanjing Agricultural University who was sent by the Municipal Association of Science and Technology to the demonstration base of "raising ducks in high beds."

Professor du said that the way of raising ducks in high beds is completely closed indoors, and the net beds for raising ducks are more than 1 meter from the ground. this kind of net beds use bamboo and wood to build bed frames and grids, which are covered with plastic nets, and a fence half a meter high should be built on the outside of the grid to prevent ducks from running around. The whole shed is divided into a number of communities, each of which is provided with a sink and a food trough.

Compared with grazing and flat raising on the ground, net raising of meat ducks has three advantages. First, labor-saving, and not subject to seasonal restrictions, can also be raised in winter; second, the growth is fast, the general meat duck can be fenced in 32 days, the weight can reach 2 kilograms; third, the number of patients is reduced. Therefore, it is of great value of promotion in rural areas.

The most important thing is, "We breed ducks ourselves." Professor du said that at present, cherry valley ducks and other species commonly farmed in Nanjing are large in size and fat in meat. On the other hand, the Jinling black-billed duck in Nanjing is small and delicate. Therefore, experts selected foreign and local duck breeds with good growth performance to breed a new breed with moderate body size and good meat quality, and owned the independent intellectual property rights of this breed.

Du Wenxing told reporters that the most distinctive thing is the nursery room. In order to maintain a constant indoor temperature of 33 degrees Celsius, the traditional heating equipment is a coal stove, which pollutes the air and the effect is unstable. They use the most advanced energy-saving and thermal insulation heating equipment in China, and the heating equipment is put outdoors and transported into the nursery room through heating pipes, clean and efficient. Mechanical equipment is also used in the breeding room to scrape and clean the ground every day to maintain indoor hygiene, so that the duck seedlings are highly resistant to disease, coupled with standardized breeding, "almost no medicine is used from birth to slaughter."

Since high-bed net breeding must provide full-price high-quality feed for meat ducks throughout the growth stage, the expert group also studied the feed ratio. Thus, this demonstration base forms a complete industrial chain from breed cultivation, feed ratio, healthy breeding, slaughtering to deep processing. "because it is a fully closed breeding, the product features are obvious, it is relatively easy to build into a characteristic brand." Experts said that "sweet-scented osmanthus duck" is a famous brand in Nanjing, and the ducks here will become another new brand of Nanjing duck products in the future.

It is reported that the demonstration base is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of this month. A total of 1 million ducks are designed to increase the income of 200 farmers.

The reporter also learned yesterday that the "100 experts into a hundred villages" project has been implemented for five years and has promoted 145 new varieties and technologies, of which raising ducks in high beds is one of the new technologies.
