"if the skin does not exist, how can the hair be attached?" Yesterday, the reporter learned from the research activities of the provincial CPPCC on the drinking water sources in Wuhan that the purse seine culture of aquatic products such as crabs in Liangzi Lake, an industry of 100 million yuan, threatened the water quality of Liangzi Lake, an alternate source of drinking water in Wuhan, and crab farming in Liangzi Lake would be controlled.

It is understood that the 280-square-kilometer Liangzi Lake is known as the "Mother Lake" of Wuhan, Huangshi, Ezhou and Xianning. At present, the Wuhan waters of the lake (accounting for about 2% of the whole lake) have good water quality, maintain the Ⅱ water quality standard, and have been designated as a backup source of drinking water in Wuhan.

Liangzi Lake in Jiangxia District of Wuhan City covers an area of 281000 mu and is rich in more than 50 kinds of aquatic products such as crabs, mandarin fish and green shrimp. Since the advent of purse seine aquaculture in 1986, under the guidance of interests, the breeding area has reached 100000 mu at its peak, accounting for 25% of the total water area; the output has also rapidly increased from less than 8 million jin in the 1980s to more than 20 million jin, with an annual output value of more than 100 million yuan.

The prosperity of purse seine aquaculture of aquatic products, including crabs in Liangzi Lake, is the pollution of water quality. Farmers have put a large amount of bait and drugs into Liangzi Lake, resulting in serious eutrophication of water quality, which is a serious threat to the alternative source of drinking water for tens of millions of people. At present, Wuhan, Huangshi, Ezhou and Xianning have jointly signed the Agreement on the Protection of Liangzi Lake.

According to the person in charge of the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, since 2006, the provincial government has carried out four large-scale encirclement of Liangzi Lake, with a total of more than 40,000 mu. But at present, there is still a certain amount of blocking culture in Jiangxia waters, especially the iron railing located between the south and north Tsui, which separates the Zhangqiao Lake Branch from the Great Lake. According to the relevant state regulations, purse seine culture in the Great Lake must be controlled at 10%.
