China's First Leech Breeding Center Established in Wujiang City by Taihu Lake

The "Nanjing Agricultural University Wujiang Taihu Leech Breeding Center" jointly established by Nanjing Agricultural University and Suzhou Wujiang City Tuncun Diversified Business Service Company was recently established in Wujiang towel on the east bank of Taihu Lake. In the 1950s, a British chemist named McWatt overcame all difficulties and finally found a mysterious substance-hirudin. Hirudin in leech body content is very small, but powerful, only a few micrograms will make blood can not clot. Leeches bite the human body can continue to suck human blood, is the leech mouth release hirudin edge effect. Hirudin, extracted from leeches, has been used in medicine. According to clinical tests, it has the functions of relieving arterial spasm, reducing blood viscosity, dilating blood vessels, increasing blood circulation and promoting absorption of exudates. Therefore, hidrodin has a wide range of uses, and can be used to treat difficult diseases such as hypertension and myocardial infarction. With the development of modern medicine, the demand for leeches increases gradually, but the wild resources are exhausted day by day, which makes the contradiction between supply and demand very prominent. In recent years, it has become one of the world's most popular Chinese herbal medicines. Due to the decrease in quantity and the increase in demand, the acquisition price of leeches has risen again and again. At present, the market price has reached 18Q-200 yuan/kg, sometimes even to the point where there is no price. For this reason, many foreign countries such as Britain, Russia and other countries are committed to artificial breeding and breeding technology research work. Britain established the Leech Scientists Association in the 1980s and opened a biologics company. Russia's Mosko International Medical Leech Research Center raises more than 1.5 million leeches every year and has formed a unique industry. It is found that besides living leeches and medicines processed by leeches, the extract of leeches can also be made into beauty medicines with excellent curative effect. At present, the center sells a large number of related products and live leeches to the United States, Spain and other countries every year. In our country, leech as a traditional Chinese medicine in the past, there has never been a lack of concern. Leech is a kind of organism, its growth and reproduction are closely related to natural climate and human activities. As a wild medicinal resource, leech is a regenerative resource, but its growth intensity and reproduction rate are not infinite. Our Jiangsu Province was once a province with large leech resources, located in the Hongze Lake, Gaoyou Lake and Taihu Lake basins. The climate and geographical environment are suitable for the growth of leeches. For a long time, they have been widely distributed and have a large number. Before the end of the 1980s, it was not a problem to provide hundreds of tons of goods every year. However, in recent years, it has generally reflected that the supply is tight, and the annual output is less than 20% of the original. In view of the above situation, experts from Nanjing Agricultural University carried out research on artificial breeding of leeches three years ago, through natural development rules and growth habits of leeches, natural breeding of leeches and factory breeding. The observation and research on the efficient breeding model of leeches and aquatic plants have achieved phased fruit. In order to transform them into productive forces as soon as possible, coupled with the unique natural conditions of Taihu Lake, Nanjing Agricultural University and Diwan cooperated to form the scientific and technological entity of "Wujiang Taihu Leech Breeding Center of Nanjing Agricultural University", so as to further carry out research, development and technology popularization in relevant aspects.
