India's soybean output may reach 9.9 million tons this year
India's soybean production this year is likely to reach last year's level of 9.9 million tons, mainly because an increase in sown area could offset the adverse effects of the drought, according to officials from the Indian Soybean processors Association (SOPA) on Tuesday.
The lack of rainfall in the rainy season in India this year may affect the growth of summer crops such as soybeans.
According to SOPA Coordination Officer Raj? Ajawar said that rainfall in the main producing areas in the next two months will be a key factor in determining soybean production.
As of Aug. 6, soyabean acreage in India reached 9.368 million hectares, up from 9.131 million hectares a year earlier, according to official figures.
