During an interview in Xiayi County, Henan Province, the reporter heard a friend introduce a vegetable farmer surnamed Yan: from the beginning, he tried to build a greenhouse, and now he rents back the land to grow vegetables on a large scale. He not only has his own "pockets" bulging, but also guided local farmers to embark on the road to prosperity by growing vegetables.

The farmer, Yan Jingan, 52 years old, is a simple peasant in Wulou Village, Liudian Township, Xiayi County. Wulou Village is a professional vegetable village with a tradition of growing out-of-season cucumbers and out-of-season chili peppers. According to Yan Jingan, he has been growing vegetables for six or seven years, and at first he was forced by life, but by comparison, it is found that the economic benefit of growing vegetables is much higher than that of farming. "at that time, I felt that it didn't take much skill to grow vegetables, so I built a greenhouse in an acre of land, and we could grow whatever people planted, earning NT $2,000 to NT $3,000 a year, which was better than going out to work." Talking about the experience of starting to grow vegetables at the beginning, Yan Jingan said humorously.

In 2004, Xiayi County Agricultural Broadcasting School carried out the "Green Certificate" project in the whole county according to the arrangement of its superiors. At that time, Yan Jingan, who was eager to learn the knowledge of scientific planting, was ecstatic when he heard the news. He actively signed up for the training and seriously learned to master the true skills of growing vegetables scientifically. Under the careful guidance of agricultural experts in the Agricultural Broadcasting School, Lao Yan boldly introduced new varieties and dared to apply new technologies, and the income from growing vegetables has been greatly improved. Lao Yan calculated an account for the reporter: "now I have grown 3 mu of vegetables, one mu of out-of-season cucumbers, and I can earn 7,000 to 8,000 yuan, and the out-of-season chili peppers can be sold for 7,000 to 8,000 yuan per mu, plus more than 10,000 yuan a year for greenhouse vegetables." it can earn 20,000 to 30,000 yuan a year. "

Now, Lao Yan has skillfully mastered the planting technology of out-of-season cucumbers and chili peppers, and the products do not worry about the market; when they encounter technical problems, they have the technical guidance of agricultural experts from the Agricultural Broadcasting School. Therefore, he is no longer satisfied with the current planting scale. As a result, Lao Yan discussed with his wife to rent back 8 mu of land in Liu Zaoyuan Village, Caoji Township, a few kilometers away from home, to carry out large-scale planting. "I believe that under my careful cultivation and scientific management, we will be able to achieve greater benefits, and our lives will be better." Looking at the greenhouse under construction, Lao Yan is full of confidence and hope for the future.

After learning about Lao Yan's experience of growing vegetables, people in Liu Zaoyuan Village, Caoji Township, thought that growing out-of-season vegetables was indeed a good way to get rich, and more than 20 households joined the ranks of growing vegetables. At present, with the help and guidance of Lao Yan, the village has developed more than 100 mu of greenhouse vegetables, and now the shed is being built. They will have another bumper harvest in the near future.
