Now it is time for watermelons to be put on the market in large quantities. Next, we will take you to a melon and fruit planting base in Dongxi Lake in Wuhan City. The watermelons there are unusual. The seedlings of other people grow on the ground, but the seedlings there climb trees. What is more, the owner of these watermelons is a university graduate.

Yesterday, the reporter came to the Baiquan Farm on the East and West Lake in Wuhan and saw an endless agricultural park with a neat greenhouse and a large-scale production base. The owner here is Wei Xiaoming, a graduate of Jilin Agricultural University.

Wei Xiaoming: "when I was a child, I watched my parents grow a little grain facing the loess. The output was very low. After graduation, I wanted to use what I learned and apply it to agriculture."

Walking into the greenhouse, the reporter saw that the watermelon vine was not crawling on the ground, but "climbing along the pole". It was purple tomato like grape and cantaloupe like cantaloupe. People are overwhelmed with more than a dozen new varieties.

Reporter Xie Wei: "these ten varieties look small, but after a taste, we found that they are much sweeter than ordinary melons."

A few years ago, Wei Xiaoming, who just graduated, worked for a seed company in Jilin and was sent to Wuhan to do sales. in a few years, he traveled to many places in the suburbs. In August last year, Wei Xiaoming took a fancy to the East and West Lake in Wuhan, contracted a 300-mu planting base and became an out-and-out "farmer".

Wei Xiaoming: "Wuhan is the thoroughfare of nine provinces, the traffic is particularly developed, Wuhan's climatic conditions are also better, water is convenient, our average stubble in Wuhan reached two crops."

Thinking about planting melons and fruits in spring and summer and tomatoes in autumn and winter, Wei Xiaoming, who has been engaged in seed research for many years, knows that the most important thing is to constantly develop new products.

Wei Xiaoming: "whether the melon is good or not depends on the seed. I put a lot of effort (hybrid) on the seed to match it very complicated. finally, I combined it all with the taste, the sugar content, the outer skin of the melon, and so on. Formed this golden and jade milk-flavored watermelon."

When melon farmers are hard work: preparing the land, setting up sheds, fertilizing, raising seedlings, transplanting, and managing, no link is easy from entering the market to the exit of the finished products. after the new varieties are finally cultivated, sales are in front of them. The clever Wei Xiaoming came up with a new way.

Wei Xiaoming: "I set up the first field supermarket in central China, allowing more consumers to come to the fields and feel the pleasure of shopping in the fields."

Now, Wei Xiaoming's garden has introduced high-grade gift watermelons, melons, purple tomatoes, fruit cucumbers and other varieties, but also introduced three-dimensional planting, soilless cultivation and other advanced technology, and achieved unexpected harvests.

Wei Xiaoming: "the average farmer's normal output per mu of land is 3,000 to 4,000 jin, and the output value is two to 3,000 yuan, while mine's output can reach 7,000 or even 10,000 jin, and the output value is about 40,000 to 50,000 yuan. Ten sheds are 70,000 to 80,000 jin, and they are all sold out in less than a month."

However, Wei Xiaoming said that his real purpose is to plan to develop the production base of high-grade fruits and vegetables at Baiquan Farm to 5000 mu through his own demonstration, so as to drive all local farmers to become rich together.
