Zhou Wencheng is a farmer in Group 6 of Xianggou Village, Lvshui Township, Laifeng County. In 2008, he planted 80 mu of ginger with an income of 320,000 yuan; planted more than 100 mu of fruit with an income of 60,000 yuan; built a nursery base of 10 mu with an income of 300,000 yuan; planted 50 mu of vegetables with an income of 150,000 yuan. He founded Huanyu Citrus Cooperative in Laifeng County, which promoted Laifeng citrus production.

Zhou Wencheng used to be a wage earner. After graduating from high school, he went out to wander for nine years. During these nine years, he learned technology, accumulated experience and capital. One day in 2003, a worker tasted the crested ginger and said it was good. He realized that many resources in his hometown were favored in other places. In winter of that year, he resolutely returned to his hometown and planted 15 mu of ginger. In 2004, he earned 90,000 yuan. Since then, he contracted 50 acres of orange orchard, annual income of 70,000 yuan. In 2005, he expanded his ginger acreage and raised 100 sheep.

Zhou Wencheng knew that the traditional farming methods could not adapt to the market economy. To become rich, farmers must take the road of sustainable development of modern agriculture. In 2007, he built a 10-mu nursery base and planted ginger by sprinkler irrigation, earning more than 200,000 yuan in that year.

This year, Zhou Wencheng planted 120 mu of ginger, sprinkler irrigation area reached 100 mu. However, he was not satisfied. After serving as chairman of Laifeng Huanyu Professional Cooperative, he wanted to lead the members to become rich together.
