Last Updated: 2024/11/05, The best site for the construction of bamboo and rat houses is in the mountains with flat terrain, good ventilation, facing south and rich plant resources, so that mountain resources can be used effectively.

site construction

Bamboo rat house is best selected in the flat terrain, good ventilation, sitting north to south, rich in plant resources of the mountain, so that you can effectively use mountain resources to feed bamboo rats, reduce cost input.

The main body of the bamboo rat house is built with hollow bricks. After the rat house is built, it is 15m long, 4.5m wide and 2.5m high. The wall of the bamboo rat house shall be equipped with ventilation openings, which is beneficial to ventilation in the house. On the ground of the bamboo rat house, three cement columns with height of 10cm, width of 10cm and spacing of 30cm shall be built as the foundation for building the rat pool. The rat pool is built with ceramic tiles, which is low in cost, simple to build and easy to clean.

breeding mouse selection

The male mice should be more than one and a half years old and weigh 1.5~2.5 kg. The male mice with good quality should be strong in physique, testicle exposed, docile and not easy to fight. The female mice should be more than 8 months old and weigh 1~2 kg. The female bamboo mice with good quality should have even nipple exposure, which is capable and docile.

For the first time, the male and female mice should be raised separately. Two bamboo mice should be placed in each mouse pool. When it is suitable for mating season, the male and female mice should be placed together for reproduction.

Feeding Management of Breeding Rats

Bamboo rats do not like drinking water, so the daily feed should be fed with fresh and tender plants full of water. Bamboo rats feed mainly bamboo, sugar cane and elephant grass.

The feeding time of bamboo rats is generally selected at noon. Adult bamboo rats can feed bamboo, sugar cane and elephant grass every day to meet the nutrition needed by bamboo rats for one day.

The suitable temperature for bamboo rat growth is between 8~28℃. If the temperature is too high, bamboo rat is restless and easy to die of heatstroke. If the temperature is too low, bamboo rat growth will slow down and reproduction ability will decrease. When the temperature of bamboo rat house is too high, water can be sprinkled on the ground to increase the humidity in the house.

breeding season management

When bamboo rats mate for the first time, the male rats used should grow to more than one year and weigh more than 1.5 kg, and the female rats should grow to more than 8 months and weigh about 1.5 kg before mating.

The breeding period of bamboo rats is about 80 days, including 45 days of pregnancy and 35 days of lactation. To avoid the highest and lowest local temperatures, it is best to choose spring and autumn.

Pregnancy management

After mating, the growth and development of female rats should be observed every day. Female rats should be raised separately after pregnancy to prevent male rats from killing young rats.

During pregnancy, the nutritional level in the diet of female rats should be strengthened to ensure that female rats have sufficient nutritional supplements during pregnancy, laying a good foundation for the production of young rats. Steamed rice and bran can be mixed with water according to the ratio of 1:1 to feed bamboo rats. Female rats during pregnancy should be fed 2~3 times a week, 40~ 50g each time.

Postnatal care of female rats

Female mice are sensitive to the environment before and after giving birth, so keep the female mouse house quiet when giving birth, and shade the mouse pool after giving birth to create a good nursing environment for female mice.

After giving birth, the female rats should be cared for in time. The milk powder and glucose should be mixed according to the ratio of 1:1, washed with warm water and given to the female rats for drinking. The female rats should be fed continuously for 2~3 days, and each time they should be fed 3~4 spoons. This can ensure that the female rats have sufficient nutrition and recover their physical strength quickly after childbirth.

Feeding and Management of Young Rats

After 20 days of birth, the digestive system of the young mice has gradually developed and can be fed with concentrated feed together with the mother mice, which can adapt to the lactation time of the mother mice, which is beneficial to weaning and promoting the growth and development of the young mice.

At the age of 35 days, the young mice have been weaned, and the young mice are separated from the female mice, and the young mice are raised in groups. The weaned female mice continue to be raised separately for 10 to 15 days to recover the female mice. When the weight of the female mice returns to the prenatal weight, the female mice can be placed back in the nest of the male mice to wait for the next mating.

When young mice are raised in groups, the male and female should be separated to prevent random mating. When young mice are raised in groups, their teeth are still very fragile, so they are mainly fed with soft foods such as sugar cane, elephant grass and concentrated feed to avoid hurting the teeth of young mice.

Juvenile feeding management

Bamboo rats were fed 2 bamboo, 1 sugarcane, 1 elephant grass and 30g corn grains every day during their youth. The feeding status of bamboo rats was observed every afternoon, and the bamboo rats with good quality were selected for breeding.
