Eggplant and pepper are our common vegetables, but have you ever drunk eggplant juice or seen a pepper plant that grows two meters high? Kim Kyung-suk, an agricultural doctor from South Korea, currently contracts 30 mu of land in Chengmai County to create these "miracles." The reporter walked into his manor on the 2nd to uncover the story behind the "Dr. Yang" for you.

Went to Israel to study agriculture in the early years

"Doctor Yang" got married in Hainan two years ago.

At noon on the 2nd, the sun was shining, Longpo Village, Jinjiang Town, Chengmai County. In a vegetable field, eggplant seedlings are growing well, and a middle-aged man in a straw hat is patrolling the vegetable field. Looking at the growing eggplant seedlings, there was a bright smile on his face.

His name is Kim Kyung-suk. He is 55 years old. He is a doctor of agriculture and is from Busan, Korea. According to reports, when Kim Kyung-suk was a university student in South Korea, he majored in engineering. After graduation, he developed a strong interest in agriculture. At the age of 29, he went to Israel, where agricultural technology is highly developed, to study agricultural science and technology, and finally obtained a doctorate in agriculture. Later, he has been engaged in agricultural science and technology research, and has been to Shenyang, Beijing, Qingdao and other places to engage in melon, fruit and vegetable cultivation and research work.

In his work, Jin Jingxi found that the weather in northern China is relatively cold, and agricultural research is easily restricted by natural conditions, which leads to relatively high investment costs, so he came up with the idea of coming to the south of our country for development. In 2007, he finally chose the treasure island of Hainan, when he found a piece of land in Sanya and began to engage in agricultural cultivation.

"Doctor Yang" tried to grow alternative melons and vegetables

Eggplant for juice is sold for 50 yuan per jin.

Through the introduction of friends, in March this year, Jin Jingxi came to Longpo Village, Jinjiang Town, Chengmai County, to contract land to engage in the planting experiment of new agricultural varieties.

It is reported that in the early years, Longpo Village was famous for growing watermelons in Chengmai and even Qiongbei area. later, the disease of the melon land was too serious, and the villagers changed to grow melons and vegetables, with peppers and melons as the main varieties. Li Yunfu, secretary of the village branch of Longpo Village, is a very intelligent leader. At the beginning of this year, Chengmai County designated 1500 mu of Longpoyang in Longpo Village as a melon and vegetable planting base for Hong Kong and Macao. In order to get through the ideological work of the villagers, he called village representatives to meet many times, and finally held a village meeting, and finally won 30 mu of land and contracted it to Jin Jingxi to do an experiment.

Dr. King's experiment lasted from April 1 to the end of September this year. His experiments are new varieties of crops from Israel and other places, including eggplant, chili, melons and long beans, as well as imported fertilizers for these crops.

At noon on the 2nd, the reporter saw a lush green scene in Dr. Jin's experimental field. Eggplant, cucumber, pepper and other plants are growing well. But these plants do not seem to be significantly different from the vegetables and fruits planted by other villagers. In the face of the reporter's question, Dr. Jin smiled: "the eggplant I grow can be squeezed into fruit juice to drink. The growth period of chili is as long as two years, and the plant can grow up to 2 meters high."

Under the hint of Dr. Jin, the reporter found an obvious difference: the vegetable fields are usually covered with plastic film in winter, while in Dr. Jin's eggplant field on a hot day, there is a thick layer of plastic film. What on earth is going on? Dr. King explained that his plastic film can keep the soil from getting too hot, keep it moist, and prevent weeds from growing to affect the growth of eggplant.

"how is the eggplant produced in this way better than ordinary eggplant?" The reporter asked. "there are many advantages, such as drinking this kind of eggplant juice can help you lose weight." He patted the reporter on the shoulder and said with a smile. According to him, the cost of planting this new variety of eggplant is very high, and the sales price after successful trial will also be very considerable. "50 yuan a jin, RMB." Dr. King said with a smile.

After the experiment is successful, it will be popularized in Hainan.

Willing to help the villagers go to Israel to study

A "foreign doctor" came to the village to plant "alternative melons and vegetables", which aroused the curiosity of the nearby villagers. Every day, some villagers take advantage of idle farming to ride motorcycles to visit Dr. King's land to see how the new varieties are growing and what planting techniques Dr. King has adopted.

While the villagers are full of expectations for these new varieties, they also raise a lot of questions. For example, most farmers grow eggplant and use only one pole to fix the plant. In order to fully receive sunlight on the leaves of eggplant, Dr. King uses two poles to cross as a support, which makes the villagers feel rare and some think it is too wasteful. Others think Dr. King's approach is reasonable.
