One day in 1999, Wang Songyu, who was in distress, went to Nie Chengbo, the then party secretary of Tumen town, to express his desire to grow vegetables in the greenhouse but lack of funds. Nie Chengbo immediately expressed his support and lent him 6000 yuan to help him develop the vegetable industry. With the support of town and village cadres, Wang Songyu set up two greenhouses that year to try to grow vegetables in the greenhouse. However, due to lack of technology, poor management and protection, and the lack of responsibility of the technicians hired by the town from Shouguang, Shandong Province, his income from selling vegetables in the previous two years was not enough to cover the cost of building a greenhouse.
In those years, Wang Songyu was not the only one who lost money on growing vegetables, and some local farmers gave up growing vegetables one after another. "there is always a knack for growing vegetables. If you want to grow vegetables, you have to grow them." After two years of losses, Wang Songyu was duty-bound to plant vegetables for the third year. In this way, in the off-season, he can sell out his vegetables without going out; in the peak season, at about 4:30 every morning, when the tricycle he hired appears in Yunxi County full of fresh vegetables, usually before the car stops, the waiting vegetable vendors swarmed in and snapped up all his vegetables. Over the years, Wang Songyu continued to write the story of "fresh vegetables in Tumen, loved by everyone" with his own practical actions.
Since 2001, Wang Songyu's income from selling vegetables has increased year by year, and the scale of growing vegetables has also been expanding. Over the past 10 years, his cumulative income from selling vegetables has exceeded 300000 yuan, making him the leading local vegetable producer and marketer. In 2007, he used his savings from selling vegetables to build a new building with his neighbors. The house he lived in cost more than 100,000 yuan to build and install, and some high-end furniture and electrical appliances also bought a new house.
After Wang Songyu's vegetable industry boomed, he gradually became a famous star of getting rich. In recent years, the media in Shiyan City and Yunxi County have repeatedly reported his deeds of developing characteristic industries to become rich, and local people have come to learn from the experience or asked him to pass on his skills.
